When Rand Paul announced his “official” candidacy for the presidency this week he sparked a number of debates, not only in the media and among his opponents, but inside the GOP. One of the less noticed ones revolved around a comment he made during the speech regarding the institution of term limits for congressional offices, similar to what we have for the Oval Office. This drew a quick response from our friend Matt Lewis, who feels that Rand is missing the mark.
"During his presidential announcement on Tuesday, Sen. Rand Paul took a stand for term limits. “We limit the president two terms” he said. “It is about time we limit the terms of Congress.”
This struck me as an odd thing for a libertarian-leaning candidate to say. After all, shouldn’t we the people get to decide whom we want to represent us…or not?"

Maybe the pesky Grassley, Sessions and Vitter can be removed from standing in the way of Rand/Chamber amnesty agenda.
I’d be ok to lose one good congressperson every four to six years as long as he takes 20-30 money grubbing, power hungry congress slobs with him.
Is this the same Paul that whined he could not run for President
and maintain his Senate seat too?
At the time KY rules did not allow it. His buddy Mitch helped change
those rules so he could do both.
Paul likes term limits as long as they do not apply to him.

Joe Biden spent a grand total of two years in the private sector before he was elected U.S. Senator. Those two years should have enabled him to run for a house seat and no more.

I am disgusted by $21 Trillion debt on schedule by the time Obummer is out of office.
I do not like borrowing from China to fight wars in middle east. We are broke, can not afford to play world policeman until debt is under control.
I want every illegal deported, no exceptions.

Most of them spend way too must time on the public dole and then they have the audacity to brag about “serving the public” while their net worth doubles or triples or more in a the few years in “public service”. We have become the servants and they have become the elites that have learned how to screw us.

Unfortunately NONE of the leading GOP contenders want to deport all illegals. Why?
Americans favor deporting all illegals. Why are our politicians in the pockets of their donors & Chamber of Commerce?

Obama maintained his Senate seat while he campaigned for President.
Each State has their own rules.
KY, until recently did not allow a U.S. Senator to hold his senate seat
and run for President too.
Those rules were recently changed.
It’s the law, and the legislature did not change the laws.
The state GOP is toying with the idea of a caucus vs. a primary to avoid the problem of him being on the ballot twice for the primary, but that would not correct the problem of the general election - and the law does not permit replacement candidates. So, if he were to win the nomination, the Senate seat would be forfeit to the Democrats - an automatic gain for them, or he would have to forfeit the 8 electoral votes and not appear on the ballot for President.
Neither term limits nor a balanced budget amendment are conservative OR libertarian. They are attempts to use the power of government to force a result that SOUNDS good, but can’t be achieved through the political process.
Rand could be a great spokesman for liberty in the Senate. Instead, he just wants power. He’s gonna’ go down hard.
I think EEE was allocating 12 years to all elected politicians.
I think 12 years is too long for POTUS and Senators.
Senators should get 2 terms of 4 years each, same as POTUS.
House Reps can have 4 or 5 terms of 2 year each. Because they face the voters every 2 years.
Are you kidding me? The only reason politicians get huge campaign donations and other favors (Menendez!) is because they have gained lot of power via seniority system.
Which then results in the politicians doing favors to their few benefactors instead of the people.
I agree with 12 years for Senators and Representatives. POTUS should be left alone.
Also to those who opine “but, can’t we elect who we want so what is the NEED for TL?” I say “my god, where is your head, can’t you see that ALL our problems are traceable to the rampant corruption amongst the fab 535 going back 75 years?”
