The root issue that nearly everyone runs away from is that on average there are drastic differences in ability between blacks and other races. Certainly there are blacks in the genius range, but the average IQ for blacks is around 80 to 85, (depending on which studies you read). Few people are complaining that the mildly retarded are not being hired as engineers, doctors, scientists, CEOs, etc. Few people are complaining that the average income of the mildly retarded is below the average income for all Americans. Most people understand that it has nothing to do with race and is based on ability. Yet some of those same people are making this complaints regarding black representation in professions requiring high intelligence.
The situation is similar for complaints about student achievement, college attendance rates, graduation rates, income levels, and a host of other areas that indicate inequality based on race. Factor in ability and many (maybe all?) the differences will disappear. In fact, some studies have shown that when matched by qualifications, blacks out-earn other races.
Once we start comparing people based on ability and not on skin color, we can have a more honest discussion of the situation.
And when we value each individual person for themselves and not for their contribution at either the voting booth or the IRS coffers, we will have made great strides toward equality.
