Gov. Scott Walker heads to Europe this week on a trade mission featuring private meetings with business and government representatives in Germany, France and Spain, as he ramps up for a likely bid for the Republican presidential nomination in 2016.
The most high-profile event on Walker's itinerary comes Tuesday when he's slated to deliver a 15-minute speech titled "Opportunities for bilateral trade and investment" at the Hannover Messe trade show in Germany. That is the world's largest industrial fair, Walker's office said in the documents detailing the trip provided to The Associated Press.
Walker's only other event that's open to reporters is a meeting with representatives from the German Center for Neurodegenerative Diseases to discuss possible collaborations on fighting such deadly ailments as ALS, Parkinson's Disease and Alzheimer's. Richard Moss of the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health is also participating.
The weeklong trip that begins Friday comes amid Walker's expected run for the White House. But no staff from Walker's political committee is traveling with him on the trade mission, which was organized by the state's chief jobs agency the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp.

I love Scott Walker, but I think Cruz is a far better candidate and does not have the flaws that Walker has, like supporting amnesty. I hope that he does not split too many votes with Cruz, and that the two of them work out something quickly so that Jebbie doesn’t squeeze out an early lead. Paul will also take some votes from Cruz, but not as many, in my opinion. Walker is the real danger to Cruz. Sadly, a Cruz/Walker ticket is my dream ticket, but if they fight it out, that can’t happen.
Scott Walker does NOT support amnesty.
Do we never learn? Cruz or lose!
I can’t think of a better Senator for President than Ted Cruz (maybe Mike Lee) and I can’t think of a better Governor than Scott Walker for President.
At this point in time, I’m leaning towards a Cruz/Walker or Walker/Cruz ticket.
Well said. Thank you for stating the obvious that so many refuse to perceive.
Yeah, and I always wanted a pony, too. But in the REAL world ... the only thing Walker does now by declaring his candidacy in the GOP presidential primary, is obstruct Cruz. So as unpleasant as it is, the time is NOW to be encouraging Walker (and his supporters) to back down and save it for 2020 or 2024. The GOP has one shot at this, and less than two years to do it.
Not any more. But he is more persuadable on that issue than he is on economic or other social issues. He hasn’t lived it like Cruz in Texas.
Cruz, on the other hand, can bring in Walker and get him to toe the administration line on illegal aliens, and use him for what he is good at (which is pretty much everything else). What Cruz has over Walker is also a debater's sharp mind and wit, and he can handle the media and leftists in a way no one could since Reagan. He can handle the onslaught; I'm not sure Walker can. As veep, Walker has 8 years to sharpen his abilities outside of the bumbling leftists he deals with in Wisconsin.
A benefit is it brings into play the upper midwest, where Republicans have made gains lately, as evidenced by Walker. In addition to Wisconsin, Cruz/Walker could have a fighting chance in Illinois, Minnesota and Michigan, and would lock down Iowa and the Dakotas. Walker would play well in Ohio and maybe New Hampshire. Pennsylvania is probably a lost cause, the cheating is too great there even in a good year.
It has drawbacks, but only to people who look at demographics above all else. It gives us two relatively conservative candidates, not reaching out to the moderate wing. (I think Cruz can reach above the moderate wing to the voters, but that is open for debate.) It gives us two white guys, lilly white at that. Well, Cruz is hispanic, but don't hold your breath waiting for the media to shout about it. Most likely, they will resurrect the "white hispanic" label they made up.
Just my very early analysis.
He needs to be more blunt. He needs to clearly define the issues and stick with his positions.
His recent comments in NH about comprehensive immigration reform (amnesty) gave me pause. I CANNOT support anybody that supports amnesty. Walker's response to Obama's foreign policy criticism was tepid and ignored by the liberal media.
He is running a by-the-numbers Republican campaign, and straddling the fence between establishment and Tea Party. His campaign reminds me a lot of George W. Bush's in 2000, in which a lot of independents and blue-collar voters stayed home, resulting in Bush losing the popular vote.
Which is also why he makes a good VP for Cruz. Walker is inherently a conservative guy, but he doesn't have as much of his world view nailed down at this point in his life. Every time one of those guys goes to Washington, they end up getting turned to the dark side, because they are not as well grounded in what they believe, and Washington will grind a man down if they are not hard as iron.
But as Cruz's VP, Walker helps assure the moderates who are willing to stomach Walker while they berate Cruz. And then he has 8 years to work under Cruz's tutelage. Bush didn't become conservative by working with Reagan, but Bush was a globalist RINO from the git-go, and Walker is not. Walker will be well-prepared to take over in 8 years, after Cruz rescues the country. And if he shows any signs of joining the RINO team, we won't get fooled again like when Bush pretended to be Reagan.
Thank you for your cogent reply. I agree that Cruz would be the better of the two for President.
