Genius
Th-Th-Th-That’s ALL folks!..............
“You mean on top of everything else, this ship is rigged?”
Stan on Columbus’s trip.
Pretty much the father of modern advertising.
Wasn’t he part of Firesign Theatre?
Beyond funny. We had the 45 RPM back in the day.
Wow, he was a genius. He did a Christmas jingle thingie one day that lampooned Christmas and advertizing. I remember the lyrics till today . “We wish you a Merry Christmas, We Wish you a Merry Christmas, We wish you a Merry Christmas and please buy our beer!”
I think maybe 20 years ago he did a Campbells Soup commercial that was like a broadway stage production with giant cans of soups coming out of the stage and Rockette girls dancing and singing.
RIP and condolenses to his family

A great.
Liberal though.
What a SPECTACULAR mind! A true genius.
He had a powerful influence on the advertising media, not to mention a substantial number of recorded comedy albums for Capitol Records.
One of the great VO guys, specializing in satire & parody. Sad to see him go. :>(
DAY-0! — It’s too piercing, man...
Well, two of the three radio gods of my childhood are now gone. First Jean Shepherd, now Freberg, only Ken Nordine remains with us...
Rest in peace.
Stan Freberg was one of my all-time influences in humor, satire, and parody. To me, as a young man, the Big Three in parody were Stan Freberg, Allan Sherman, and Tom Lehrer.
Go to the corner of 7th and Caterpillar, and step on it!
This is sad news. I liked occasionally listening to Old Time Radio.
That’s the right guy, isn’t it?
Now I can read the post.
For the past couple of years I’ve been playing Flash Jr. Freberg’s “Christmas Dragnet”.
It starts with Wednesday’s partner asking him if he’ll come over for Christmas Dinner, in a sort of irritatingly repetitive style, but which sets up a bunch of jokes later on.
“Love to have ya, love to have ya, the Missus does this relish tray. You know, olives, pickles, those little green onions. People call them green onions, but they’re really scallions. Love to have ya.”
About a month ago I came across a bunch of the original REAL dragnet radio shows. I picked one at random. The first minute and a half is Friday’s partner trying to get him to come over for dinner.
