EDMONTON - Alberta Premier Jim Prentice has called a provincial election for May 5.

The campaign will play out against the backdrop of an Alberta economy in flux.

The collapse in the price of oil, the province's main income source, is expected to cause a $5-billion deficit this year.

Prentice's Progressive Conservatives will be running on a budget that includes tax hikes and spending cuts to ride out the storm.

The Progressive Conservative government of Alberta, lead by Premier Jim Prentice, has just called an election for May 5. Though called 'conservative', they are more like Liberals in the Province. Obviously, they expect oil prices to remain low for at least the next 18 months otherwise, they would not have called an early election.

Forty four consecutive years in power for one party is a bad thing. The crony capitalism in this Province is ridiculous. The Wild Rose Party is still attempting to recover from its leader and many members defecting to the PCs, but hopefully, it can win enough seats to at least create a minority government in the Province.

Prentice is a joke. He actually had the balls to tell Albertans that we need to pay our share. They heard from me after that. Hell, I pay over 65% of my income to taxes.

I’ll be going wildrose. They aren’t conservative enough, but it’s better than what we have.

Barring that, maybe I’ll run my self.

Flat 10% tax.
Abolish the abc agencies.
Private healthcare and schools.
Free speech re-instated.
Property rights restored.
Right to bear arms restored.
Deport Islamic people.
Outlaw socialism
Cut off Ottawa’s greedy reach
end equalization payments.

That’s a start.

It keeps getting more so each day. The ‘conservatives’ passed a bill recently, mandating ‘gay straight alliance’ clubs within ALL schools that receive ANY government funding. A friend is a Principal at a Christian school of 45 pupils. He is required to develop plans for such a thing, on the chance that any child requests such a club.

How disgustingly sick!

I still cannot get over how the members Wild Rose Party within the legislature just folded up & joined the P C caucus a few months ago now.

I guess they figured there was no hope and just gave up, seeking power with the PCs. Personally, I gave up on the Wild Rose when Danielle Smith abandoned Pastor Ron Leech after he was branded a racist by a secular Hindu interviewer on an ethnic radio station interview. Of course the CBC picked up the story and ran with it. Danielle caved; a foretaste of what she would do in 2014.

When the going get a tough, the tough get going... Danielle got going, in her case, turning her tail and running! The good news is that Danielle got defeated in her bid to represent her riding for the PCs, so she’ll be sitting out this election.
