Is ObamaCare Enrollment Already Hitting A Wall?
Investor's Business Daily ^ | 03/06/2015 | John Merline

Posted on 04/07/2015 4:00:09 AM PDT by IBD editorial writer

Earlier this year, the Obama administration hoped to boost ObamaCare sign-ups by offering a special enrollment period for millions who didn't know about the individual mandate penalty until they filed their taxes. They'd have until the end of April to buy a plan and avoid paying an even bigger ObamaCare penalty when they file taxes next year. At least one outside observer expected as many as 1.2 million to sign up.

The thing is, Americans should stop sending jobs overseas.

That is the BIG issue.

We wouldn’t have any issue with healthcare, if everyone was working. The big problem right now in America is that so many people are not working, because their jobs are now being done in China.

America needs to rebuild, and bring back American jobs, right here to America.

Have you considered the possibility that maybe the cost of health care in the U.S. is one of the things that drives jobs overseas?

If everyone was working, what would keep someone like Obama from messing with your healthcare? Think about it.

Well all I know is America is offshoring all of our very own jobs.

I for one, say we need to (aggressively) start rebuilding right here in America.

China now exports more than any other country, including America.

America needs to pay attention to this. China has now, the world’s second-largest military budget.

Theirs, is (rapidly) growing.

Yet here we are. Continuing to buy ever-more stuff from China.

Well ok. I just went to the website, and read the article.

I now know, that website has a very irritating bunch of popups.

Just saying. :)

Not seeing however, what your point is. We need to bring back more jobs to America.

American jobs.

It is so simple. All of our problems are due to the fact, that we import far too much from the Chicoms.

My point is that you began with your usual blather, off-topic to boot, without even bothering to read the column.

Seriously, who the heck on this website feels that we don't need more jobs?

I don’t see you saying anything to support American jobs.

Of course I don’t see anyone saying anything to support American jobs.

All I see is my country, increasingly just buying everything from a massive communist nation.

A massive communist nation, which doesn’t allow free immigration, and which aggressively gloms onto American businesses.

Bringing them to China, then taking them over.

Everyone is now, advocating for China.

A non-elective government, which supports the Chinese people, to the exclusion of the American people.

America needs to support American jobs.

You are wrong.

This is completely on topic. America cannot continually export American jobs, then argue at the same time, that insurance should be dependent upon our jobs.

I am all for America being a free place, which doesn’t rely on government to run our healthcare.

But we CANNOT DO THAT while we are continually just buying ever more stuff from the Chicoms.

Bring back American manufacturing.

Then we will bring back American healthcare.

Not government-supported healthcare. Real healthcare.

But we won’t have that, if we continue to just spend ever-more American money, buying stuff which wasn’t made in America.

One or the other:

Either we support American businesses, right here in America.

And we have free enterprise in our healthcare decisions. Or we send American jobs to China, and everyone demands our government take care of them.

(a situation which will by the way, eventually result in the complete collapse of the American economy)

America needs to be for America once again. The GOP needs to be for America once again.

America needs to bring back, American jobs.

The whole article boils down to this:

Why aren't they enrolling? Industry analyst Robert Laszewski crunched numbers and finds that for many, ObamaCare remains a pretty lousy deal. On his blog he notes, for example, that a family earning 253% of the poverty level would get an average of $3,534 in subsidies this year. But they'd still owe $4,934 in premiums for a Silver plan with a $2,700 deductible.

"How many families making $60,000 have an extra $4,934 in their budget for a policy that will likely pay them almost nothing?" If that family decides to pay the penalty, it would cost them a much lower $975, according to the Tax Policy Center.

They're taking their chances and deferring payment on the penalty. Most don't have the spare $975, never mind the five grand.

It’s one thing to tell us to support U.S. job ( as we all do), it’s another to lay out a workable plan. I hear on thread after thread how “we need to bring back U.S. jobs”, I never read about the plan. Without a plan it’s just an annoying platitude.

Without drilling down into the Macro-economic consequences of the past 20 years of progressive tinkering the velocity of money in this country is virtually nil.

How do you propose to bring American jobs back when taxes and regulations are choking business, illegal migrants have taken virtually every job created in 10 years and the suppressed wages, hidden inflationary forces from endless money printing sapping the buying power of middle America, Zero virtual growth to the U.S. economy for 2 decades when deficit spending is extracted, and a nutless marginal majority rino legislature.

Without detailing a plan to overcome these and other headwinds saying “bring back U.S. jobs” is nothing more than spam. There is nothing “simple” about it.

America is not exporting jobs. Companies that do business all over the world are reducing their operations in the U.S. and expanding them overseas.

There are two reasons for this:

1. It's cheaper to do business overseas.

2. There are more customers overseas.

The United States of America has become a tired, expensive place to do business, and doesn't offer the same growth prospects as other parts of the world. It's really that simple, and posting these "bring back American jobs" rants on FreeRepublic on any thread where you think they're relevant isn't going to do anything to change that.

I can tell you that all of this because I would love to open a business myself and employ other people, but I refuse to do so because I refuse to deal with a bureaucratic mess just to keep the lights on. This ObamaCare sh!t sure doesn't help, but the truth is that employer-paid health care is a complete disaster regardless even without ObamaCare.

When the world goes from a world wide workforce of 800 million to one of 2+billion, yelling bring back our jobs wont work.

40 years ago we had a choice, to raise the world to our standard of living or to drop to theirs.
