Crimean Tatar Media Forced to Shut Down Under Russian Law

All but one of Crimea’s independent Tatar-language media outlets, including several popular children’s television channels, will be shut down tomorrow as the midnight deadline for re-registration expires under Russian law, Amnesty International has warned.

The Crimean Tatar-language publications, websites and broadcasting outlets, although they claim to have submitted their applications for re-registration in good time, have been “arbitrarily” refused re-registration, or not heard back from licensing authorities after applying last April, according to Amnesty. If they do not close, they face hefty fines and even criminal prosecutions.

In stark contrast, Russian-language media outlets reportedly received their licenses shortly after applying.

Still more free than is our press...which already makes the soviet-era Pravda jealous.

And it’ll remain that way until after CW-II.

And CW-II will not be worth it unless each and every MSM member meets their doom in a very unpleasant manner.

“The Crimean Tatar-language publications, websites and broadcasting outlets, although they claim to have submitted their applications for re-registration in good time, have been “arbitrarily” refused re-registration, or not heard back from licensing authorities after applying last April,”

This is the same tactics used by the Obama and supported by
the republican party during the 2012 elections. And the same
tactics will be used again in 2016 by the IRS and the FCC,
also with the approval and support of the republican party.

Secured in a chair Clockwork Orange-style and forced to watch MSNBC continuously for 28 days?

Putin is bringing back the soviet style of press, the empire, and its cruelties. Meanwhile, there are people so stupid that they cannot figure out that communistic like tyranny by another name is still the same problem for Russians, Europeans, and the USA. It is sad to see we’ve more than a few of these philistines and dilettantes posting regularly here. They’ll either provide moral equivalence by saying the USA is no different than Putinstan, or these dupes will claim Putin is a fine Christian paladin.

Yep. The US equivalent would be the kenyan shutting down all but one Spanish station in Los Angeles. That’s hardly what is happening. Yet look at the scholars here making such a false moral equivalence.

Very little independent anything left in Russia. It exists solely to enrich Putin’s cronies and pump gas to their customers.

Yes, their comparisons make no sense, but sense is not what they want to make. What they want to make is what the military calls obscurants (i.e., smoke). They want to hide the truth about Putinstan and president-for-life putin.

Note too that it used to be the Left that fawned over foreign despots, disparaged America while comparing it unfavorably to some new utopia, which were always self-evident dystopias, and constantly exaggerated the faults of the America people. Now, we’ve have these same types of people on the Right who see Putin’s so-called phony conservative regime as a model for America. These Putinistas cannot see Putin and Russia as the aggressor against its weak neighbors, and they see the restoration of the Soviet Empire as no different than US foreign policy. They’ve become the blame America firsters.
