Driver’s licenses for illegal immigrants are under discussion at the Minnesota Legislature — again. Previous attempts to allow the undocumented to drive legally have failed, but this year the measure should pass. As public safety officials have argued for years, the change would make roads safer.
Opponents of the proposal say that the licenses would enable voter fraud, cause homeland security risks and reward those who have already broken immigration law. However, in this case public safety interests trump other concerns.
The driver’s license dilemma is yet another result of America’s broken, outdated, schizophrenic immigration policies. The honest reality is that millions of workers and their families are here (an estimated 90,000 in Minnesota alone) — and the rest of us benefit from their work and their spending. Many already drive to get to their jobs. They are on our roads and should be subject to the same tests, rules and insurance requirements as any other driver.

Undocumented immigrants should be able to be licensed drivers - in their own country...
they should have their cars impounded...and sent packing
the proceeds from sale of those vehicles would buy a very nice fence at our southern border
Next move after this is automatic voter registration at time of issuance.

Good thinking trib.....and when the next big terrorist attack occurs with the aid of state issued drivers licenses, at least we can say,”Well the roads are sure safe!”
And Oregon says everyone with a license can vote. The Dems aren’t even trying to hide what they’re doing.

We'd benefit from millions of jobs that should be filled by Americans actually being filled by Americans. Americans who would not be sending a portion of their earnings to Mexico every month.

Using the term illegal IMMIGRANT establishes the power noun the left uses as the hammer to claim conservatives are against immigration and thus all racists.
They are all foreign invaders. They have nothing to do with immigration or anything even remotely associated with that process.
Ever notice how very important it is to the left to ONLY use that power noun, their pivot point and fulcrum for their level.
So I’m supposed to believe you’ll get insurance based on your first act in my country is to sneak in illegally. Yeah, sure.

Anyone else notice that liberals, including Obama and this article, indicate that some liberal course of action is the right thing to do?,, Right according to whom? Liberals only are permitted to weigh in?
I think its a liberal tactic to shut down debate and discussion. We self righteous liberals are “right” and we advocate the “right thing to do”. Thus, by definition, the rest of you are All “wrong”, because we liberals are “right” and on “the right side of history”,and all that crapp.
