The former head of the Defense Intelligence Agency on Sunday described President Obama's Middle East policy as one of "willful ignorance," saying the administration needs a clearer strategy for dealing with conflicts emerging across the region.
Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn said during an interview on "Fox News Sunday" that recent developments in the Middle East are moving in a bad direction for the United States, with Iran "clearly on the march" to influence events in a "regional sectarian war."
At the end of the day, we have just this incredible policy confusion never mind what our strategy is to execute that policy," Flynn said. "We have to stop what were doing and take a hard look at everything going on the Middle East because its not going in the right direction."

"regional sectarian war."
If we could be sure it would be contained to the ME, that might not be such a bad thing -- let them kill each other off.
Recall between GW I and GW II, Iraq and Iran battled each other for a decade. Maybe we should have just stayed out of their way then.

“willful ignorance,”
Just classical liberal thought processes. They are so brilliant that they CANNOT have a bad idea. If it didn’t work it is because we didn’t do enough of it, or we haven’t given it enough time to work. It can ever be that they were wrong; they are too smart to ever be wrong.
Besides, if they admit to themselves an error that opens the door to the thought that they may be wrong about other things. Scary when you know deep down that you are wrong about just about everything.

The great leaders will a) establish strong guidance at a high level, clear commanders intent, and hard line limits not to be crossed without higher authority, b) place competent people in positions to carry out those plans, and c) delegate wide freedom of maneuver within those established guidelines.
Make your own judgement as to whether those qualities are on display from Washington...

I can’t help comparing this president to the Germanwings co-pilot, flying America to the cliffs and killing all we hold dear, for some sick reason most people don’t suspect.

Perhaps his poor performance is due to lack of intelligence(IQ)leading to failure of foresight, plus poor impulse control.
