Chuck Norris Writes to Save the A-10 Warthog from Retirement

Air Force leaders wanting to send the A-10 Thunderbolt to the bone yard already have any number of lawmakers criticizing them from Capitol Hill.

Now they’ve got “Lone Wolf McQuade” coming after them.

Action star Chuck Norris – an Air Force veteran – on Monday delivered an editorial roundhouse kick to the Air Force, arguing on the World Net Daily website that the “Warthog” – as it is known – still has plenty of fight left in it.

In the ongoing campaign against ISIS, Norris writes, “the A-10′s utility is warranted even more now than ever.”

“Its firepower capability, speed and accuracy, frequent war use, and the oft-painted teeth on its nose cone have made it one of the military’s most popular aircraft,” Norris wrote.

It’s well known the current Sec of the Air Force is an affirmative action airhead.

Kudo’s to Chuck Norris

Fairchild-Republic wanted to name the A-10 the “Chuck Norris II”

After a roundhouse kick threat, the airplane was named “Thunderbolt II”

Has anyone ever seen an article about Chuck Norris that did not use the word ‘roundhouse?’

Keeping the A-10 seems to me plain ol’ commonsense.

As a tank killer and ground troops support platform why
doesn’t the US Army come to the rescue of the A-10? Let
the Airforce train Army pilots.

“It’s well known the current Sec of the Air Force is an affirmative action airhead.”

I offer the following. . .

Shelia Widnall, former Sec AF under Clinton, she was a MIT aeronautical researcher of some sort. I was in the Pentagon at the time and had to attend a “Women in Aviation” dinner of some sort. . .sat next to Widnall.

No kidding, the conversation went like this:

SW: “I see you have wings. Are you are a pilot?”

Me: “No ma’am, I am not”

SW” (Slightly confused look)

Me: “I am a FIGHTER pilot”

SW (after being taken slightly aback by the usual fighter pilot response to such a question): “Oh, what airplane did you fly?”

Me: “The last fighter I flew was the F-15E.”

SW: (a pause). . “Oh, the one with two tails?”

Me: “Yes, the one with two tails.”

No, she was not joking,. She was a serious as can be. The “one tail/two tail” characteristic was how my wife distinguished the F-15 from the F-16.

Logistics and support train is large and the A-10 does not operate regularly off runways, so, the Army would be tied to air bases and the costs associated with that.

Why is the USAF still flying the B-52 designed more than 60 years ago and with the planes older than the crews who fly them? I would think the A-10 would continue to fill a unique role just like the B-52. Instead of drones, a fleet of A-10s could pulverize ISIS forces in Iraq.

The F-18 has two rear vertical wings, too. That probably would have thrown her for a loop.

And, let me guess...the A-10 has little or no
advantages over the Apache that would make it a
practical option considering the logistics?

Today's News Item:

"Last week, the joint commander in charge of operations against the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria reported that Syrian Arab Coalition fighters had beaten back the group, taking the town of Al-Hawl and 250 square kilometers of territory around it in an offensive supported from the air by US Air Force A-10s and AC-130s flying from a Turkish air base. Now, the Air Force is apparently reconsidering the timeline it has set for retiring the A-10, as the demand for the venerable assault plane's close air support capabilities rises yet again."
