Donald Trump Raises Questions About Ted Cruz's Canadian Birth
NewsMax ^ | 03/23/2015

Donald Trump remains interested in birth certificates.

The reality television host, real estate magnate, and serial almost-presidential candidate who repeatedly demanded that President Barack Obama produce proof that he was born in Hawaii, turned his attention to Sen. Ted Cruz on Monday. In an interview with MyFoxNY, Trump said that Cruz's birthplace, Canada, could be a problem for the Texan's presidential bid.

“Well he’s got, you know, a hurdle that nobody else seems to have at this moment," said Trump. "It’s a hurdle and somebody could certainly look at it very seriously. He was born in Canada … if you know … and when we all studied our history lessons … you’re supposed to be born in this country, so I just don’t know how the courts would rule on it. But it’s an additional hurdle that he has that no one else seems to have."

Unlike Trump, most legal scholars and media outlets that have considered whether Cruz's birthplace represents a "hurdle" to his presidential aspirations have concluded that it does not.

It's not the first time that Trump has questioned whether being born in Canada precludes the senator from running for president. In a 2013 interview with ABC's Jonathan Karl, Trump responded to the question of whether Cruz was eligible to run by saying, "Perhaps not." (The exchange comes at the 2 minute mark in the video.)

Read the text that the Freeper provided from the Constitution. It does not say a natural citizen must be born in the country, only that he must be born to a citizen thereof.

By that measure, Cruz is eligible. Constitutionally eligible.

Trump is the icon for a self-absorbed, self-important, blowhard clown. His mirrors are gilded, but in reality they are the distorted carnival ones that make one look bigger.

My local news (liberal biased) here in Florida is already running stories about Cruz and eligibility.

And I fear they will drown his campaign in this issue. They will never shut up about it. H3ll, we can't even shut up about it on this website, and we Like him!

Ya, we can't have Conservatives discussing important Constitutional issues.

There is no discussion. Nobody is going to convince you that your interpretation is wrong. And you're never going to convince the rest of the world that your interpretation is correct. You have two sides each speaking to the other side's brick wall.

What is truly embarrassing is the so called Constitutionalists like Glenn Beck and Mark Levin mocking this issue.

We've gone beyond the absurd where reason has no play. Hell is that place....The place where the liberal dwells. Where a natural-born Citizen = illegal alien. Where slavery is freedom.

Pull your heads out of your puckered sphincters people.

Admit that he's not eligible and vote for him anyway.

I'll take Ted Cruz, a naturalized citizen who loves America over the marxist, muslim America-hating faggot illegal alien we've had in the oval orifice for the last 6 years.

I've looked at his candidacy and think Cruz is eligible. I'm an American that's voting for him, not some non-American.

I believe in him enough that he got cash money from me up front for the first time ever. I've always started by donating time and effort. This is the first politician to get cash when he announced.

I have worked on the ground for him in the past... of course.

I’m pretty sure Sarah meets the natural born provision.

It does not say a natural citizen must be born in the country, only that he must be born to a citizen thereof.

as in John McCain

Ya, we can't have Conservatives discussing important Constitutional issues.

You can discuss all the Constitutional issues you want to. But the fact remains that anyone unaware that Cruz is a NBC and is eminently qualified to be the POTUS is very likely a concern troll with an agenda to discredit Cruz.

"I like Ted Cruz, but...."

Right.

I didn’t see anybody throw any serious doubt as to McCain’s eligibility.

A constitutional scholar, who has been before the Supreme Court many, many times, who has been endorsed by the most liberal law professor in the world, would knowingly put out his birth certificate, which is open to view by all to see and run for President of the United States knowing he isn’t qualified.

A clarification: Dershowitz has not "endorsed" Cruz. Dershowitz has said that Cruz was one of the smartest students he ever had at Harvard Law. But Dershowitz does not endorse Ted for president...

There is nobody I like more than Ted Cruz. But he is NOT a natural born Citizen.

Well, since you aren't the one who gets to make that determination and most Constitutional scholars who have opined on the issue disagree with you, I am not going to worry about it much.

The more they talk about it, the more likely the usurper in the white house will be exposed. I love it.

Capt. Queeg was born in the Canal Zone.

Baraq H. 0bama was born in Kenya (according to his Harvard bio). Methinks we would except someone from Betelgeuse.

"Hey look, I've got a pen and a phone..."

After all, "what difference, at this point, does it make?"
