Ted Cruz: In 2017, GOP president will sign legislation ‘repealing every word of Obamacare’
Washington Times ^ | March 16, 2015 | David Sherfinski

Posted on 03/21/2015 11:13:30 AM PDT by SoConPubbie

As the administration touted new health insurance enrollment numbers on Monday, Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas predicted a Republican president would undo the entirety of President Obama’s signature domestic achievement upon taking office in 2017.

“I believe in January of 2017 a new Republican is going to enter the White House and in 2017 is going to sign legislation repealing every word of Obamacare,” Mr. Cruz said, speaking at the “Politics and Eggs” event in Manchester, N.H.

Mr. Cruz, who is considering a presidential bid of his own, tweaked “graybeards” in Washington and people who predicted the fall 2013 battle over the law, spearheaded by Mr. Cruz and other conservatives in Congress, that led to a partial shutdown of the federal government would guarantee Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid would keep his job as majority leader in the U.S. Senate.

“If that had happened, there’d be a lot of voices on TV going, ‘I told you so. We told you so. That numbskull Cruz persisted in fighting against Obamacare and look what happened,’ ” he said. “Well, the old rule: What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.”

He said in 2014, Republicans won an “epic, historic, tidal wave” election and said Obamacare was the No. 1 issue.

“And it’s interesting — it doesn’t seem to have occurred to anyone in Washington that energizing and mobilizing millions of people across this country, elevating debate about the disasters — all of the people who’ve lost their jobs, lost their health care, lost their [doctor] because of Obamacare may have played some part in an historic tidal wave that changes control in Washington based on the exact issue that energized and mobilized those millions of people,” he said.

GOP president will sign legislation ‘repealing every word of Obamacare’

Well, first you have to have a Congress willing to draw up legislation repealing Obamacare...for a POTUS to sign it..

I am DOWN for money against that position. What is the bet? Lets get them lined up, losers can put their pledge into a charity or the FR fund drive.

You CAN NOT lose betting that Republicans WILL pussy out on a pledge, philosophical stance, or backing the constitution. It's free freakin' money.

He would sign it. But would Congress ever pass it?

No need to sign any legislation. His predecessor set a precedent that the President can do anything they want by Executive Order.

Congress? We don’t need no stinking Congress. Obama has shown it is not necessary. Cruz could simply sign an executive order, or maybe have one of his cabinet members write a memo, directing the government to ignore all rules, and laws associated with Obamacare, and sit back to wait for states, corporations, or individual citizens to sue. That is how our government works now, right?

<>His predecessor set a precedent that the President can do anything they want by Executive Order.<>

That's right, vast powers have swirled into the exec branch. Obama’s IRS, NSA, FEC, FCC, illegal voters, Acorn, etc. will ensure his despotic powers do not fall into conservative hands.

We've crossed the line, the transition is over, we are not a republic.

Future elections will be courtesy fornications that serve to condone criminality, to legitimize tyranny.

I don't. Congress doesn't end entitlements. It's already entrenched and they have nothing to replace it with.

Okay, now I think that he is putting way too much faith into the liberal Republicans. He might be willing to refill it, but the idiots that just got elected in November are happy with business as usual and supporting the liberal/fascist agenda.

Sure. How silly of Ted Cruz to try to appeal it.

Give up, die-off and Obamacare will out live you.

I LOVE THIS BUNCH of candidates and potential candidates (Cruz, Cotton, Walker, maybe others), especially compared to 2012, when we had Santorum (who simply seems like a dark person), Gingrich (often gets flaky), Cain (simply not up to it), and Ron Paul (total nutcase).

We may wind up with a strong candidate that applies my tag-line (if he has half a brain).

“If that had happened, there’d be a lot of voices on TV going, ‘I told you so. We told you so. That numbskull Cruz persisted in fighting against Obamacare and look what happened,’ ” he said.

If I remember correctly, there were some on FR who were berating Cruz for standing up against Obamacare, and predicting a "total loss of the Senate, and maybe the House" back at the time.

Hmmmm, wonder what they think/say now?

they have, rightfully, spent the past 6-7 years trashing Obamacare and making it abundantly clear to all that they want it gone one way or the other. They have turned killing obamacare into their reason for existence and I genuinely believe that the vast majority of them genuinely despise this socialist BS. I don't see how they can not kill it if they have the opportunity to do so.

And they also passed bill after bill repealing Obamacare and sent them to the Senate, when it was controlled by the Democrats. Well now the GOP has the Senate and how many times have they submitted such a bill for a vote? Not once. Because now they know that if the bill hits the Senate then they have no excuse not to vote on it. And that is the last thing McConnell wants to do.
