Republican U.S. Speaker John Boehner to visit Israel 10 days after Netanyahu’s victory (March 31)

Trip was arranged before election but is likely to be a 'victory celebration' for Netanyahu and Obama's arch rival.

Speaker of the United States House of Representatives John Boehner is expected to visit Israel in about a week. Boehner, a member of the Republican Party, is U.S. President Barack Obama’s arch rival and the man who invited Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to make his controversial speech in Congress.

Senior Israeli officials who asked to remain anonymous said Boehner will begin his visit, which has not yet been announced publicly, on March 31, heading a delegation of Republican Congress members. The officials said the final agreement for the visit was given during Netanyahu’s trip to the United States some two weeks ago.

Although Boehner’s visit was planned before the election, it will be a sort of “victory celebration” for Netanyahu and he is expected to be received with great honor.

The crisis between the White House and Netanyahu over the prime minister's speech to Congress flared up again a day after the election with a series of White House press briefings to Haaretz’s Peter Beinart, the New York Times and other media. The main message was that the damage Netanyahu caused Israel-U.S. relations is serious and that if Netanyahu is interested in repairing it he must take concrete steps like replacing Ambassador Dermer.

Netanyahu yesterday attempted to send public conciliatory messages to Obama. In an interview with NBC he said that his speech in Congress two weeks ago was not intended to show disrespect to the president. He said the ties between Israel and the United States were strong and that “America has no greater ally than Israel and Israel has no greater ally than the United States.”

Boehner is only trying to boost his perception by rubbing elbows with netanyahu. I wish he would tell Boehner, “Stop your damn bawling, put on your big boy pants, and go fight for America.

Glad to see that! the House of Representatives definitely does stand with Israel, against the TANTRUMS that Obama goes through in regards to Netanyahu and Israel. AND the Senate also supports Israel, against Obama’s tantrums!

— — — — —

The Obama Admimistration simply wants to “cherry-pick” a single statement, out of YEARS OF POLICY and ACTIONS by Israel and Netanyahu, to use as an EXCUSE to “bring down the hammer” on Israel and Netanyahu, something Obama has wanted to do all along!!

In First Post-Election Interview Netanyahu Says He Supports ‘Sustainable’ Two-State Solution, Never Changed His Policy
http://www.algemeiner.com/2015/03/19/in-first-post-election-interview-netanyahu-says-he-supports-‘sustainable’-two-state-solution-never-changed-his-policy/

JNS.org - In his first interview with American media after his Likud party’s election victory, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said he supports a demilitarized Palestinian state that recognizes a Jewish state, if specific circumstances make that a realistic possibility.

“I don’t want a one-state solution,” he said in an interview with NBC News. “I want a sustainable, peaceful two-state solution.”

In a pre-election interview on Monday, Netanyahu had told the NRGwebsite that he would not support Israeli withdrawal from its territory to make room for a Palestinian state, due to the possibility of attacks by Islamic extremists.

“I haven’t changed my policy,” Netanyahu told NBC News on Thursday. “I never retracted my speech at Bar-Ilan University six years ago calling for a demilitarized Palestinian state that recognizes a Jewish state.”

Netanyahu said he believes “circumstances have to change” for there to be a Palestinian state, adding that current Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas has made a pact with Hamas that calls for Israel’s destruction.

“And every territory that is vacated today in the Middle East is taken up by Islamist forces,” he said. “We want that to change so we can realize a vision of real, sustained peace.”

The U.S. State Department on Thursday said it “can’t forget” what Netanyahu said about his position on a two-state solution earlier this week.

“Certainly, the prime minister’s comments from a few days ago called into question his commitment to that,” State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said.

“We believe he changed his position,” she added. “We can’t forget about those [initial] comments.”

Speaker Gingrich visited Israel in 1998. From google searching I think that’s the only other time the Speaker has traveled there.

We need Speaker of the House Boehner standing with Israel, representing the House of Representatives, in doing so! Obama is trying to take out a personal vendetta he has against Netanyahu, on Israel!!

Netanyahu maintains the same position he’s ALWAYS HAD with negotiating with the PA for forming a Palestinian State. As I suspected and have known from before, Netanyahu’s position on that is reasonable and fair ... and HAS NOT CHANGED!

And on the issue of ARABS In Israel, he made clear what his position HAS ALWAYS BEEN with Israeli Arab Citizens ... they have full rights of any citizen and they will be helped by various social programs as he has always done, and they will NOT be discriminated against. They are FULLY INTEGRATED into Israeli society!

BOTH of those things sounds EXACTLY like the Netanyahu from before and extremely fair. Israel should be EXTREMELY PROUD of Netanyahu as their Prime Minister!

Prime Minister Netanayahu gets SLAMMED by the Left and the New York Times ... AND ... and he gets SLAMMED by the Right and the Israeli papers ... LOL ...

AGAIN ... Netanyahu’s position on being very willing to negotiate with the PA and very willing in forming a Palestinian State has remained the SAME for years ... as he pointed out from his Bar-Ilan speech.

Netanyahu has never been the “holdup” on forming the Palestinian State, it has been the Palestinian Authority who has been the holdup. They don’t want to get the Palestinian State through “negotiations” with Israel, but they want to get it from it being “imposed from the outside” without any conditions attached,

Netanyahu Flip Flop: I Want a Two-State Solution [Israel]
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3269715/posts

Days after vowing not to establish a Palestinian state, Netanyahu says something else in his first post-election interview.

Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu has retracted his pre-election statements, according to which he would not allow a Palestinian state to be established.

“I don’t want a one-state solution. I want a sustainable, peaceful two-state solution,” Netanyahu said Thursday in an interview with MSNBC’s Andrea Mitchell. “I haven’t changed my policy.”

Netanyahu said his earlier comments were a reflection of changing conditions on the Palestinian side, pointing to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas’s pact to form a unity government with Hamas, which Israel, the U.S. and most European countries consider a terrorist organization.

“I’m talking about what is achievable and what is not achievable,” Netanyahu said Thursday, insisting that he would support a demilitarized Palestinian state under a plan that would ensure Israel’s security.

Good post Star Traveler... here is something I posted earlier today.

Bibi is very sly, he never has been for a Palestinian state next to Israel. In his Bar-Ilan University speech of 2009 he stated that a two-state solution required “a demilitarized Palestinian state that recognizes a Jewish state” This is impossible to achieve as the Palis will never agree to it... As I said, Bibi is sly and he is not for a Pali state... he is for eternal, pointless negotiations that lead nowhere but help to quiet the leftists.

Since Netanyahu has specifically outlined the conditions required, very clearly and repeatedly and in public, over a long period of time, I’m entirely confident that he will do so, according to his word, once this is achieved. Negotiations can produce some surprising results ... :-) ...

In any case ... we all know, without a doubt, that negotiations will be restarted.

Israel can use support from any and all quarters. You’ll find Israel is NOT PARTICULAR as to where their support comes from ... :-) ... they will welcome Speaker of the House Boehner, with open arms, regardless of the internal matters within the GOP.

After reading all the parliamentary ‘stuff’ during Bibi’s election I got to thinking if we had a parliamentary system Boehner and Pelosi would be co-leaders of a “unity” bloc.

Wait a minute...

Once again,
the article being more about Boehner going to Israel, rather than Israel geopolitical machinations,
I see your point, but ... Obama disrespects Israel and Boehner disrespects conservatives; neither are friends to both Israel and conservatives.

At the the end of the day, I think Benjamin and those like him would join those of us here and those like us, in thumbing our noses at both Obama and Boehner.

Most importantly, I believe that I, like most (patriotic) Americans support Israel only insofar as its interests coincide with our own national interests. I don’t ‘neo’.

So again, I tend to think that Netanyahu feels the same way about Obama as conservatives feel about Boehner: they aren’t our friends, nor are they concerned about what is best for our country and for our fellow Israelis and Americans.

Speaker Boehner can be the 3rd Democrat in our time to, once again, get Arabs and Israelis to shake hands and ensure peace in our time, but he can also, one last time (for now), kiss my hairy conservative a** as long as he wants to play international statesman, but GOP “moderate” at home.

That’s ONE PLACE in the world where I’m more than happy to see governments funds spent in any possible venture, whether military aid, foreign aid, for Congressional trips to Israel or what have you.

You can discontinue EVERY FOREIGN AID package in the world, and shut them all down tomorrow ... but NOT to Israel. All the rest can be discontinued, but never Israel!
