U.S. Threatens Sanctions Against Israel, Makes Excuses for Iran
The Weekly Standard ^ | 3/19/2015 | Daniel Halper

Posted on 03/19/2015 7:58:25 AM PDT by Crazieman

The U.S. government might impose sanctions on Israel or allow its greatest ally in the Middle East to be tried in the International Criminal Court, according to Politico. Michael Crowley reports:

Obama officials must now decide whether more international pressure on Israel can help bring a conservative Netanyahu-led government back to the negotiating table with the Palestinians — or whether such pressure would simply provoke a defiant reaction, as some fear.

Obama has other diplomatic options. He could expend less political capital to oppose growing momentum within the European Union to impose sanctions on Israel for its settlement activity.

More provocative to Israel would be any softening of Obama’s opposition to Palestinian efforts to join the International Criminal Court, which the Palestinian Authority will formally join on April 1. Under a law passed by Congress, any Palestinian bid to bring war crimes charges against Israel at the court will automatically sever America’s $400 million in annual aid to the Palestinian Authority, although some experts suggested Obama could find indirect ways to continue some funding — even if only to prevent a dangerous collapse of the Palestinian governing body.

It looks like Netanyahu is going back to negotiations. And that’s not a bad thing, because it will take the pressure off Israel from stuff like is mentioned in the above article ...

After Elections, Netanyahu Loyalist Says Israel ‘Delighted’ to Renew Palestinian Talks [Israel]
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3269421/posts

Israel’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Tzachi Hanegbi (Likud) said yesterday in an interview that the new government is willing to return to the negotiation table with the Palestinians.

“We would be delighted to renew the negotiations,” Hanegbi said in an interview with the Israel Project. “We believe it is in the interest of both people– the Israeli and the Palestinian– to have a dialogue; to discuss our disputes; to try and find [a] common denominator in the issues that are so crucial to both people.”

Hanegbi, a Netanyahu loyalist, also said that the new government will begin an intense effort to renew the trust between the United States and Israel.

“We will make an effort, a very, very intimate and intense effort to renew the trust between the governments,” said the deputy foreign minister. “It is essential for the security of Israel. It is essential for the survival of the state of Israel.”

Hanegbi’s words are significant in light of Netanyahu’s vocal opposition this week to the establishment of a Palestinian state. The hostility of the Obama Administration towards Netanyahu was also widely reported in the weeks leading up the Israeli election.

WELL ... I do know that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that there would NEVER be Palestinian State on his watch, if he was re-elected as Prime Minister. And that was a DRAMATIC change of policy by Netanyahu, given just hours before the election started!

Perhaps what Netanyahu intends to do now is simply TALK ... and never agree to a state ... LOL ...

Every passing day this administration is becoming more arrogant, self righteous, dismissive, and filled with hubris. Its getting pretty far out on the limb now. Maybe a fall is not that far away.

IMagine that you live in the state of Illinois, and the governor and legislature decides to allow a separate state within the state of a people that are not Americans and don’t even have to speak English, and who really don’t have any ethnicity, rather they say that they’re a certain group of people who are entitled to live here.

The Palistinians have a homeland, it’s called Gaza.

As your tagline suggests, the whole world will abandon Israel. The transalation is often that Israel will become a Cup of Trembling. A more correct translation might be “a Cup of Poison.” Only when Israel turns its back on the whole world, as the Israelites did in Egypt, will the final chapter come upon us.

Agreed —and woe be to the United States for abandoning its ally ——may the Lord remember his faithful servants who supported Israel while the Government did not......

What common denominator could they have? Netenyahu has said they will never have a state, and the Palestinans want a state. The Palestinians want Israel gone, and Israel isn't willing to go away. What is there to talk about?

The U.S. won't impose sanctions, because Obama will never get it past Congress. What he will do is drop support for Israel in the U.N. on things like Iranian sanctions. He won't veto Security Counsel motions that Israel opposes.

And he'll do whatever he can to broker an agreement between the P5+1 and Iran so that the U.N. will drop all international sanctions against Iran. That way it doesn't matter if the Congress refuses to drop our sanctions, the rest of the world will be trading with Iran and buying their oil and selling them goods. It'll be the embargo of Cuba all over again. How can you have an embargo is only one country is doing it? And Israel will be left dangling in the wind.
