As ratings plunge, MSNBC faces shakeup
Politico ^ | March 19, 2015 | Dylan Byers

It would be hard to imagine a news event better tailored to MSNBC’s Venn diagram of “lean forward” liberals and “place for politics” political junkies. Yet when Hillary Clinton, the Democrats’ presumptive 2016 presidential nominee, held a news conference about her private email use last week — a media frenzy that functioned, albeit inadvertently, as the informal launch to her highly anticipated campaign — less than 13 percent of the total cable news audience was tuned to the network.

The low turnout wasn’t a fluke: Year-to-date, MSNBC’s daytime viewership is down 21 percent overall and 41 percent in the coveted 25-to-54 year-old demographic, putting it in fourth place behind Fox News, CNN and CNN’s sister network HLN. Its prime-time ratings are down 24 percent and 42 percent, respectively. In both daytime and prime time, MSNBC is bringing in its smallest share of the demo since 2005, the year before Keith Olbermann’s scorched-earth admonitions of the Bush administration ushered in the current era of Rachel Maddow, Ed Schultz and Al Sharpton.

*

The extent of that change could be vast: In the months ahead, MSNBC is likely to shake up the bulk of its programming, moving some shows and canceling others, high-level sources at NBCUniversal told POLITICO. With few exceptions — notably “The Rachel Maddow Show” and “Morning Joe” — every program is at risk of being moved or cancelled, those sources said. “All In with Chris Hayes,” a ratings suck that currently occupies the 8 p.m. time slot, will almost certainly be replaced. Network execs are also considering moving some weekday shows, like “Politics Nation with Al Sharpton,” to weekends.

Without Bush in the White House and the spectacle of watching their heads explode very evening, it’s just no fun anymore.

I can't understand why no one watches MSLSD:

If liberalism is so prevalent, per the liberals, and liberalism is on the march, as Obama transforms America, and the American people approve of this, then why is the network devoted to liberalism doing so poorly in the ratings?

'nuff said.

I hope no one thinks that they’ll move to the right. They don’t even know where the center is. And even Fox News hasn’t been “on the right” for a long time.

could it be that their core audience has tuned out, due to not having Bush as a foil for the rantings and ravings of their liberal programs hosts??? Instead of bashing Bush, they instead have little to bitch about. After all, their guy is there in the White House. They approve of what he is doing. There’s nothing for them to bitch about.

I suggest that they double down and veer further to the left. That way, when we’re all forced to watch them, they’ll be ready.

For the first time yesterday, I saw a couple minutes of Sharpton.

Stunned was my reaction. Awful doesn’t even describe how bad it was.

Why anyone watches is amazing.

Veteran hosts seem to have grown tired of trumpeting liberal outrage night after night, these critics say, and have become caricatures of themselves.

Sharpton and especially Matthews are well described by this statement.

Morning Joe is safe until January 2017, when Obama leaves office and takes ValJar with him. At that point, Mika will no longer be a useful idiot, she’ll just be an idiot, an overpaid idiot, to be sure.

He'll never go for that. He does some of his best agitating on the weekends!

Don’t they have a “ratings plunge and shakeup” about every year or so?

What I can’t figure out out is, if you have an average rating less than 0.1, how can it plunge?

In spite of no evidence that anything is improving. In fact, most evidence is that things are getting worse. We hear what a wonderful job Obama is doing? ACA is working out even better than expected!
This evil Empire, at least the perimeters, appears to be crumbling. What is happening with MSNBC is a little good news in an otherwise withering economy.
Converting to a less sustainable form of Government is, in and of itself, very costly. The crooks have got their money and power. That leaves the sellouts who made a career out of being useful idiots.

Do not believe for a minute that any of these libtards believe that maybe they got it all wrong. Like that would happen..haha. Maybe a very few but most of the true believers, and or sellouts, are worrying about their overpaid jobs. They got paid really well to bad mouth everything good about America and now what are they going to do?
My guess is they will get even more desperate. I seriously doubt any of them have learned anything. They know everything already.

Yeah, he needs his weekends free because many of his followers and people who show up at his rallies are busy during the week at their jobs.......

Oh wait

I’m betting on Sharpton to Fox News as part of FNC’s ongoing lurch to the left.

MSNBC hasn’t been any fun since they fired Obermann. Need more—entertaining people—that’s it in the nutshell. Valerie J. has a slot in the future. They have become so anti-semetic they could have the Arian hate Hour as a show and fit right in. How about the Oppressed Workers hour? The Black Power Hour? the Kill the Rich Hour? The Marx and Lenin Hour!

When I read the headline I thou it had the word feces instead of faces.

MSNBC, feces. It all the same to me.
