Pa. Senator Proposes Automatic Voter Registration Law

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) – A Pennsylvania senator says he plans to introduce a bill that would automatically register people to vote when they use the services of certain state agencies.

Senator Vincent Hughes (D-Philadelphia/Montgomery) said his proposal would essentially change Pennsylvania’s voter registration system from an “opt-in” system to an “opt-out” system.

Pennsylvanians currently may fill out voter registration forms when they apply for public benefits, services or licenses through the Department of Transportation and other state agencies.

Under his proposed legislation, Hughes said the state agencies would automatically collect voting-related information with the application and electronically send it to the Department of State and counties for registering the voter.

Voters would then receive a notice allowing them to select a party affiliation or to decline registration. If a person does not opt out within 21 days, they would be added to the voter rolls.

Hughes said his legislation in based on a similar law in Oregon.

A RIGHT is not something to “opt-out” of. It is to be Exercised by citizens.

What a manipulative a@@hole, typical lib dem- desperate for voters— esp. ones they can “fake”.

One more example of “constituency” based machine politics— working toward one party.

So if you apply for any govt. services/benefits you’d be added to the voter roles AUTOMATICALLY. You have to OPT OUT within 21 days.

No huge potential for voter fraud here. /sarc

It will automatically register one D vote for every visit to a Parole Officer, Family Services, WIC, State Liquor Store, or purchase of a Pennsylvania Lottery ticket.

well, it is difficult to register. you have to fill out a form. i mean, you don’t need to fill out a form for welfare, or food stamps, or an obamaphone, at least i don’t think so.

Automatic voter registration without the person’s knowledge? What could possibly go wrong?

And if you actually do not exist, ( oops - database error wink wink )

Then the fictitious people showing up on ballots recounts will magically also be in the official voter database. So no more questioning fraud or fake people.

In other words, people who don’t exist can be seen as real at the next level of an election audit. Rather than “ I have no ID, you will actually show up on the voter roll log at the voting place.

I guess as long as the scumbag proposing this has a little D next to his name, all of the stupid people will goose step right along with it.

I moved three years ago, and had to go through the process, so I kinda know the routine.

Before showing up at the county registration office (there’s only one in the county, at the court house)....you need something to show residence (water bill, property purchase records, driver’s license, boat registration, etc).

I acquired the driver’s license that morning. Oddly, they didn’t ask for any water bill, property purchase agreement, car registration, etc).

So, I walked in and presented my license and they asked for a second ID (gave them my mil retirement ID). They produced the form, which required me to put in roughly six bits of information. The critical part of the form was which town I’d vote from. Then I signed it, and they stamped it, and it was done. Maximum of three minutes in the office.

Now, I admit....it’s in English only, and the old guy-clerk didn’t speak sixteen languages. I also admit there’s limited parking around the court house and I had to park 300 feet away (I had to pay a quarter for the thirty minutes of parking). I also admit if I’d tried to do this two weeks prior to the election, without the driver’s license or any paperwork as to my address....it would have been impossible to register in time for that election.

Commie piggies like this jackass love screwing around with the election system. It’s one of the first signs of the onset of serious mental retardation which then develops into the incurable condition of becoming a DemocRAT.

On a side note the senator added that it will also automatically cast your vote on election day. :-)
