Scott Walker signs right-to-work bill (Wisconsin)
Mikwaukee Journal Sentinel ^ | 3/9/2015 | Jason Stein

Overhauling more than a half century of labor law in Wisconsin, Gov. Scott Walker on Monday signed so-called right-to-work legislation banning labor contracts that require private sector workers to pay labor fees.

In a matter of weeks, Republicans pushed through the measure making Wisconsin the 25th state with such a law, giving a victory to manufacturers in the state and a blow to organized labor and some construction firms, which had opposed the measure.

The passage marks a shift in the GOP governor's position that comes as he pursues an all but certain presidential run. Walker said repeatedly during the intense battle over Act 10 — his 2011 law that repealed most collective bargaining for public workers — that he would not let legislation affecting private-sector unions reach his desk.

That's interesting. So Scotty "evolves" when he finds it necessary.

Very interesting.

Illinois has had to threaten, cajole, and pass special legislation “Exempting” companies from tax laws and Union rules since Indiana went “Right-To-Work”, to keep them from leaving.

Now, with Wisconsin going RTW, Northern Illinois is screwed.

Good for Walker - it’s a step in the right direction.

Who’s your candidate of choice and what’s his track record for actual legislation??

Actually, I never heard he said that, “he would not let legislation affecting private-sector unions to reach his desk.” I thought he said it would not come up on this session.

I am not as close to it as some. But I am shocked at all the FReepers who don’t like Walker. He is a proven fighter against liberals and he is governing very conservatively. Are some angry because he has made RINO statements and then ACTED conservatively? This sounds like the liberal playbook in reverse. Don’t we always say check their record? What am I missing? Why the hate?

They just have to lie. They cannot help themselves.

Right ON! Everyone in FR is attacking this guy and he has done more conservative actions than anyone in recent memory! I love Cruz too, and I want to have more than 1 viable candidate in case one of them gets shot down.

What’s wrong with using some of the liberal tactics where they speak vaguely on some issue and then once in office actually do what they really want to do?

Cruz is my candidate but this doesn’t take anything away from Walker.

You probably won’t hear Cruz and Walker really going after one another because I suspect they are going to be partners for the next 8 years.

Cruz/Walker. I like the sound of it.

Really? What an odd comment.

Kindly give us more "evolving" towards conservative principles like this. I'll take it every time.

Not to knock anyone on the “Cruz ship” but I’m for Walker.

I guess with the example of Boner and Ditch, honesty is a trait that I find more and more appealing.

One thing about Reagan was he meant what he said. Supposedly true of Walker. Recently he seems to be wobbling on things because he’s leading the pack.

So nobody’s perfect. But without being Diogenes, I’m looking for a guy who proceeds from principle to policy.

Cruz is definitely it, but undoubtedly we can find him guilty of heresies as well. Since my ancestors were the victims of the Inquisition I’m disinclined to subject others to rigid orthodoxy.

But Scott may be letting his ambition get in the way of good judgement. I recall being told his friend Ryan was the Second Coming, only to find out he was just another establishment poodle.

So nothing odd about the comment. Do we want a guy like the Kenyan who says 22 times that the Constitution forbids him from doing something and then says “screw it! I’m gonna do what I want, I be’s da King!”?

Not sure this is accurate. This has been discuss on FR and I learned Walker said he would not push right to work.

don't you know by now? there are FReepers who would only be satisfied if the candidate were Ronald Reagan incarnate... or Sarah Palin... anybody else is a RINO...

According to my thinking, after the unions started the recall efforts and declared war Walker did not feel much obligation to them any more. Elections do have consequences.

I'm taking a wild guess here that "... he would not let legislation affecting private-sector unions reach his desk" is not a direct quote from the mouth of "Scotty". Seeing as a governor has no such control over his state's legislature.
