MOSCOW Thought the Soviet Union was anti-American? Try todays Russia.
After a year in which furious rhetoric has been pumped across Russian airwaves, anger toward the United States is at its worst since opinion polls began tracking it. From ordinary street vendors all the way up to the Kremlin, a wave of anti-U.S. bile has swept the country, surpassing any time since the Stalin era, observers say.
The indignation peaked after the assassination of Kremlin critic Boris Nemtsov, as conspiracy theories started to swirl just a few hours after he was killed that his death was a CIA plot to discredit Russia. (On Sunday, Russia charged two men from Chechnya, and detained three others, in connection with Nemtsovs killing.)

There are a lot of pro-Putin trolls on FR.
We have posters here who are essentially pro-Putin and anti-American; they provide excuses and rationales for all of Putin’s dirty deeds.
Yes, they long for the Gulag and the old Soviet Union; they believe in Putin because they say he’s strong, ruthless, and cute without his shirt.
Or rather, people opposed to a new war with Russia.
The last refuge of the scoundrel...............
I still believe the vast majority of Russians respect Reagan, it’s Clinton and Obama they cannot stand.
I don’t believe that fear of a war is demands we fear criticizing Putin’s policies, like his undeclared war with Ukraine. I guess if you’re that afraid of war you should go have a good cry.
You can believe whatever you like, of course. That’s not what the article states and many other articles confirm this as well.
I don’t see anything that contradicts me at all in the article. The anti-Americanism in Russia has spiked with Clinton’s stupid Kosovo fiasco and the Obama Administration.
Putin has a Portrait of Thomas Jefferson above his bed and recites the Preamble of U.S. Constitution every Morning.
When was the last time Russia hosted a Soviet Military Parade Anyway?

You realize Putin controls their media completely, right? And you did read where the article said that Putin cranked up the Russian ultra-nationalism and the anti-Americanism as a result of the protests against his dictatorship, right? Yes, Putin liked Milosevic; they were cut from the same cloth. Both men dedicated their lives to communism. Both men were forced to find a new political route to power. They both chose chauvinism. It’s not surprising that Putin draws a conclusion too from the fact that the people of Serbia eventually turned on the mad man Milosevic after he started and lost three wars.
No, MeganC is correct, pro-Russian and anti-American, the same people we have been dealing with for almost a 100 years.
People who envy and prefer Russia and their current strong man.
National policy has very little to do with this.
Nobody likes America because nobody likes a weak, rude, grovelling pansy fool without conviction or identity who doesn’t keep promises and is obsessed with anal sex and those who enjoy anal sex.
This is what we are to the world, because this is what Obama is to the world.
So you think 330 million Americans are disliked because of Obama? And you’re also letting your disdain for Obama turn you into an anti-American.
Is this really all that strange? I don’t know if America has a particularly positive view of Russia either.
Total nonsense. Putin may be a thug and dictator, but what do you intend, in all practicality, to do about it besides turing the Ukraine into a total wasteland?
I believe Putin’s already doing that in his undeclared war on a nation that is, officially, at peace with his nation. So unless you believe that those Russian troops, those Russian weapons, and all that Russian ammunition is really not Russia’s stuff, I’d say Putin is destroying large parts of Ukraine.
