The conduct of the House of Representatives is much as the Framers expected. Every popularly derived legislative chamber since the Roman republic has been responsive, to varying degrees to what the people want.

Like anyone else, Reps want to keep their jobs. Isn't it unreasonable to expect them to do that which is against human nature, to take actions which threaten their livelihood?

For 102 years, both congressmen and senators have been popularly derived, and to keep their jobs they must appeal to the people.

While the House serves its intended purpose, a popular Senate cannot. It is foolish to expect public virtue in a corrupted institution, of which the 17th Amendment is the source and cause.

No. They’re not afraid of them. They’re in active collaboration with them. The theatrics are for public consumption.
