I was in Brussels last week at a meeting of European fieldsports body, The European Federation of Associations for Hunting & Conservation (FACE), of which the Countryside Alliance is an active member.
I am honoured to be FACEs UK Chairman and to represent British sporting interests at the highest level and I can feed back some interesting points from the meeting.

In Berlin I was once stalked inside a store and shortly outside till I hopped on a bus, by an undercover detective, simply because I asked about an air-gun.
Seems like back in the day (1962) a certain group had no problem using and brandishing weapons on some sort of barrier between East and West Berlin. I took a tour to the commie side of the wall. Talk about the hair standing up on the back of your neck. The contrast between East and West Berlin was astounding to say the least. I still have a map from then showing the division. Spooky stuff.
I was talking with Mr. GG2’s daughter recently. Her husband is French. They live in rural France. The husband has had a license for a hunting weapon since he was a teenager and they hunt Boar every year. He keeps the license up but she said as far as new licenses for guns they make it harder to get one every year. So the aim I’m sure is to eventually just end it. That is Europe. I doubt the Europeans will ever get their guns back.
I have my Dad’s O/U shotgun made by Beretta gunsmiths on the side with their own hallmark, delivered in Gardone, Italy.
Satin receiver engraved with dogs & pheasants, barrels in 12, 20, 28, & .410, each with its own forearm & an extra set of trap barrels in 12.
Cost in 1969: $485.00 when a dollar was still a dollar. No limits on what U.S. military could own. Now under NATO SOFA you cannot even bring personal weapons into Italy, IIRC.
I once investigated getting a fishing license in Germany because I work a lot in Dresden. It costs more and was harder to get than my commercial driver’s license back in California. Needless to say I didn’t bother.
“Guns and Hunting in Europe” goes like this: No guns allowed, and muslims do the the hunting.
Any questions?
Hey now, if you’re some rich descendent of European nobility, I’m sure it’s super easy to get guns and hunt in Europe!
People think feudalism is dead, but they are dead wrong.
