Scott Walker wants to end funding for renewable energy program - UW-Madison needs to prioritize

......UW officials say that Walker's proposal to end funding for the bioenergy program would cripple broader energy-development research that is receiving $25million annually from the federal Department of Energy.

"I can't honestly say how we would replace it at this point,"said Michael Corradini, director of the Wisconsin Energy Institute at UW-Madison,which derives 90% of its funding from the bioenergy program...

In 2007,Wisconsin landed the Great Lakes Bioenergy Research Center—the first federal research center the state had attracted in decades. The center received an initial five-year,$125 million grant from the U.S. Department of Energy.

It was part of a $375 million package by the administration of President George W. Bush to fund energy projects at UW and two other research powerhouses—Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Tennessee and the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in California.

UW's funding was renewed for another five years in 2013.

Walker's proposal "puts us in a difficult situation...because of commitments the state made to help land the federal research center..Any discontinuing of the matching funds would place the Board of Regents in noncompliance with the federal government,"Corradini said.......

......To support UW's application for the[wood chips and grasses]Center, Democratic Gov.Jim Doyle committed $104 million.

That included $50 million in state funds in 2009 for construction of a $100 million energy research headquarters on the UW campus, according to Legislative Fiscal Bureau documents.Another $50 million in gifts and grants helped fund construction of the building, which opened in 2013.

In addition,Doyle provided $4 million to hire new faculty—money Walker is proposing to eliminate.

...Walker spokeswoman Laurel Patrick said the governor's proposal is part of his plan to provide block grants to the UW System and give administrators new authority that would free them from many regulations and rules.

The UW System "has the ability to fund this program out of their block grant if they decide it is a priority," she said....."

As usual the Feds give these institutions our tax money, then the states have to match it with more of our tax money - it is never enough and if it doesn't increase it is called a cut.

Governor Scott Walker's budget gives the university the power to shift funds around.

They will have to prioritize JUST LIKE tax paying Americans do every day.

But instead they whine and blame Scott Walker.

Read the whole thing. This is the tip of the BIG Education money sucking scam.

Walker is right.

It kind of reads like $$$ originally allocated to Fusion research is being funneled into Alternative Energy.
Kickbacks to UW for Global Warming support.

They have to be careful when they prioritize. If they get rid of everything at UW-Madison that doesn’t’ have a practical use, the school would shut down.

Absolutely. I’ve worked on DoE projects and their reporting requirements alone waste a sizable amout of the grant funds.

Walker-haters, let’s hear how this is supporting amnesty or your usual crap...

So, UW admits that the state is duplicating a federal program. The question no one in the Lamestream Media asks is "WHY???"

....Kickbacks to UW for Global Warming support.

All programs everywhere are having to carve out for GREEN energy program "studies." Then there's the usual program creep, sucking more and more money into their orbit, turning departments and agencies "green" - making jobs and room for all the anti-American "green graduates" they're churning out.

The dorms at Osh Kosh could be upgraded to the 80s, it felt like the early 70s. I stayed there once for a few days at EAA a couple years ago.

Talk about going back in time....

American Thinker:......."Given the poll bias, in my mind, Scott Walker was the true winner. I did not see his speech, but the poll suggests that Walker left CPAC in the strongest position with the party faithful of any prospective future GOP presidential candidate. Washington insider The Hill agrees, writing:

His performance didn’t have the same fervor as his acclaimed speech last month to the Iowa Freedom Forum, but it didn’t matter. Walker’s CPAC straw poll placing -- a close second behind the favorite Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) -- shows he got the most bounce out of the event. His showing was especially impressive given that he lacks the organizational muscle of the likes of Paul and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush (R), who finished fifth.

And he deserves it. While from a messaging and charisma standpoint, my personal favorite is Ted Cruz, Walker has been tested in an unprecedented, relentless, vicious, four-year trial by fire from Democrats, unions, and the media. He is the first governor ever to survive a recall election, and despite a national effort by unions and Obama’s left, he won handily. Same with his re-election. Walker has survived unsullied by a four-year secret probe that vies with the IRS scandal as one of the greatest systematic abuses of governmental power in recent memory. Corrupt prosecutors used the power of the bizarre “John Doe” law in a vicious attempt to shut down the GOP throughout the state and destroy Scott Walker’s re-election prospects. The only mystery is why Milwaukee County DA John Chisholm and his assistant, Bruce Landgraf, are not in jail. Against all these odds, Walker has governed effectively – introducing changes and reforms that have reversed the state’s downward economic slide, balancing the budget, and cutting taxes.".....

More on this vicious John Doe" business.

So what I am gathering is that Walker wants to stop throwing money at some liberal money pit, and the left is going apoplectic?

Thank you!!

The more of us who confront the LYING Walker haters, the better chance we have of coalescing around a decent conservative and nullifying the money/organization of Bush, Christie and Rand.

True. The problem is that a lot of people have been conned by the global warming cabal and they, too, think Walker is being, what, unfair, mean, deceitful, and all the other adjectives of a similar bent.

But that’s what leadership is, setting priorities and executing accordingly. I’ve made the case before in here that Walker goes after the Left’s funding sources whereas most GOP officeholders just go along to get along. Even George W. Bush fell into line when he became a lukewarmer in his second term.

Planned Parenthood is shutting clinics in WI because Walker is defunding them. Defunding the Leftist gravy train that is global warming is similar, only that gravy train is so huge it puts the rest to shame. Nationwide, we’re talking billions of tax dollars per year, which if it was all wasted would be bad enough, but it’s not wasted; it goes, instead, almost exclusively to Leftists/Progressives. We are essentially funding our own demise. Walker is the sort to put a stop to it as he’s demonstrating again here.

This is a brilliant move on his part.... he is just massing different state funding into a block grant and the university has to pick and choose where they put it. Budgeting and prioritizing, just like a business CEO or the average American working family.

If the so called “renewable energy program” gets cut, it is entirely the decision of the university that did so. Of course they are screaming bloody murder LOL
