Kareem the Dream? WashPost Lauds NBA Legend's 'Vital, Dynamic' Liberal Voice on Race and Islam

The Sunday Washington Post boosted NBA legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as a writer for Time magazine and a “new kind of public intellectual.” So what’s a little funny by the time you read through this puff piece is this: Where are the actual quotes from his political and religious commentary? There aren’t any.

Post reporter Geoff Edgers wrote under the headline “Showtime for a mover and a Laker.” One reason they're so positive? Abdul-Jabbar is arguing that you can't blame Islam for radical Islamist terrorism, that ISIS is to Muslims what the KKK is to Christians.

When things get ugly, Kareem is going to side with the sellers of black slaves.

For accuracy’s sake, it was “Dean the Dream” Meminger.

Kareem has been aspiring to ‘intellectual’ status since the 60s but he’s always been rather thick. This is a man, after all, whose basketball fortune vanished as he wasn’t paying the least bit of attention to his business affairs.

His articles justifying Islam’s retrograde practices, beliefs and blood-soaked history are embarrassing paint-by-numbers stuff.

John Wooden was a great coach and a great man but he should have counseled Mr. Alcindor and another legendary airhead talker, Bill Walton, to lay off the weed when they both played college hoops at UCLA.

... ISIS is to Muslims what the KKK is to Christians...

Wow! Without a doubt, one of the worst non-sequitur comments to ever pass a human ear drum.

Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

D'you mean Lou Alcinder? I have no patience with these morons that change their names to Christ and Jew hating names of the same ones who sold them into slavery . . . and this goes back to Casius Clay, our coward boxing legend . . . and who's that Robert Earl Moore who renamed himself to Ahmad Rashad who married Cosby's TV wife. I have nothing but contempt for him.

May they embrace with both arms the very savages who sold them by the thousands into slavery back then and they're still doing it today.

Surely, you can't be serious.

Irrelevant as a basketball player, so now he's become a cultural expert.

I liked him better as Lew Alcindor. And I didn't like him very much then.

Abdul-Jabbar is arguing that you can't blame Islam for radical Islamist terrorism, that ISIS is to Muslims what the KKK is to Christians.

Unfortunately this is simply WRONG although I"m sure that Kareem believes it. But it should be understood that his rhetoric adds more to the problem of Radical Islam than to the solution.

Here is why in a nutshell: The leaders and followers of ISIS and the like believe that The Koran and The Hadith are to be interpreted LITERALLY. Is that what the KKK did vis a vis Christianity and the Bible? I don't think so. Kareem is wrong. Way wrong.

The problem Kareem is ignoring is that the Imams read the The Koran and The Hadith and they teach Muslims what's in it. So beheadings, slavery, killing of non-believers and such are part of the curricula. Until this changes there are going to plenty of support for ISIS from within the Muslim community. But not from Kareem apparently.

What he should be doing is leading the effort to welcome the Imams into the 21st century and to give up their literal interpretation of their sacred documents. Right now I don't see much happening on that front. Without it there is going to be a big war. A very big war.

And, oddly enough, both can trace their rise directly to DemocRATS.

Yep. He’s now found himself in the gutter.

muzzies like to pass themselves off for being so honorable and morally superior. Ole Rashaad has already been married and divorced four times.

Joey: Wait a minute. I know you. You’re Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. You play basketball for the Los Angeles Lakers.
Roger Murdock: I’m sorry, son, but you must have me confused with someone else. My name is Roger Murdock. I’m the co-pilot.
Joey: You are Kareem! I’ve seen you play. My dad’s got season tickets.
Roger Murdock: I think you should go back to your seat now, Joey. Right, Clarence?
Captain Oveur: Nahhhhhh, he’s not bothering anyone. Let him stay here.
Roger Murdock: But just remember, my name is...
[showing his nametag]
Roger Murdock: ROGER MURDOCK. I’m an airline pilot.
Joey: I think you’re the greatest, but my dad says you don’t work hard enough on defense.
[Kareem gets angry]
Joey: And he says that lots of times, you don’t even run down court. And that you don’t really try... except during the playoffs.
Roger Murdock: [breaking character] The hell I don’t! LISTEN, KID! I’ve been hearing that crap ever since I was at UCLA. I’m out there busting my buns every night. Tell your old man to drag Walton and Lanier up and down the court for 48 minutes.

Does Kareem know that the reason Saudi Arabia doesn't have a race problem today is that the Arabs preferred their slaves castrated?
