Newt has certainly had his personal and political triumphs and disasters but still, despite the great oratory skills of Ted Cruz, Newt Gingrich is still the best speaker in the political world. What could have been for Newt if he wasn’t such an enigma.
I so wish that he won the nomination in 2012. I have no doubt that he would have demolished Obama and the media in the general.

As Newt wasn’t able to make it in the primaries, I don’t think he was likely to turn that around and take the general, however, I didn’t get the feeling that he was making a sincere run for the office. I think he wanted to have a say in the debate and an effect in how the arguments were made. It used to be common for individuals to use the election as a platform for ideology (like Ron Paul or Cucinich always did).
My wish is that Newt had been in the House, as speaker during the Obama admin. Things would have been a lot different if it was Newt, not Boehner who was standing up to Obama. There would be no pussy-footing around about who shut the government down, or who was going to cave first. If it were Newt, on the first day of the DHS shutdown, he’d call the media to a photo-op of him taking a chain and padlock to the DHS facility and locking the place down.
The debates between the House and the Whitehouse would have been epic, and fodder for books and dissertations for decades.

I agree. Newt has a wonderful way of getting his point across and making the media look like the a$$holes that they are.
Newt, Mittens, and Santorum were the “Big Three” Republican candidates last time. Santorum is running (although he hasn’t quite said so yet) and Mittens was mentioned until he took himself out of the race. I’m surprised that Newt doesn’t even get mentioned. Not that he’d be my candidate necessarily, but considering where he finished, it’s a surprise his name never even comes up.
