Jonathan Gruber, the consultant who said ObamaCare became law due to the "stupidity of the American voter," was fired from the board of the Massachusetts health exchange on Wednesday.
Gov. Charlie Baker (R) asked Gruber, an MIT professor, to resign, along with three other members of the board, accoring to the governor's office.
All three complied. WBZ-TV in Boston first reported the news.
In the fall, Republicans jumped on a series of videos that surfaced of Gruber commenting on ObamaCare, using them to argue the law was passed through deception.
Besides saying in 2013 that ObamaCare passed because of the stupidity of the American voter, Gruber also suggested that American voters were too stupid to understand the difference between two parts of the law.
Republicans in Massachusetts had been calling on Gruber to be removed from the board, but he remained until Baker took office last month.
The Massachusetts health exchange was plagued by problems last year, much as the federally-run marketplaces were.
Gruber has apologized repeatedly for the comments, and Health and Human Services Secretary Sylvia Mathews Burwell has distanced the administration from his remarks.
"I was extremely offended by his comments, Burwell said in November. As a public servant for many years, I have worked on these issues, and I have complete confidence in the American people."
That's all it takes? Fire Hussein.
After the American people elected Barak Obama twice
Me, not so much.
Recent reports of billing irregularities with Gruber for a contract with Vermont. When his name first hit the wires, I said that what would get him are audits of all these contracts he had as a consultant for federal agencies and the multiple state contracts he held with other states.
There are federal contracting laws on how rates, overhead, and labor categories are calculated and billed. You just can’t charge an arbitrary amount. Further, the large number of contracts, many overlapping would lead one to take note and look at his capacity to address them at the same time. Even at the direction of the Administration, a federal contracting officer must still follow contracting regulations.
Lastly, if he did this under the auspices of an MIT contract, then that institution had better have their story straight. My guess is he had students billing as researchers and professionals at the minimum, or just billing hours with no work done.
If I were the governor here, I’d order a comprehensive audit of any work he has been involved in for MA.
Wot? Resign? The craftsman who created Obamacare. Bloody ‘el thas wha I say.
Republicans jumped on ...?
Why blame Republicans?
Where was the media? Why didn't the media "jump on" this story?
if a Republican had said that voters are "stupid" it would have been on every news broadcast every ten minutes for a solid month.
“Will call you stupid for food.”
