Early low level exposure to dirt and dirty stuff as well as immunizations to tropical, exotic diseases (Cholera, Typhoid, Hep, etc) don’t hurt, either. Well, they hurt your arm like hell at first...
I think it may have been a generation thing. Mom vacuumed every single day. She mopped the kitchen floors and bathrooms every single day. She even wiped down the kitchen cabinets every single day. I’m not promoting a filthy house.. just a clean, well maintained one vs a home where you can perform surgery. LOL! (as a joke: we didn’t have to have the five second rule. Mom’s kitchen floor was so clean that the food dropped on it was clean as well!)
Refraining from pointing that out would have shown class and restraint, not to mention an understanding that a few duplicate posts here and there are harmless and only serve to ensure additional Freepers get to see an article that they otherwise would have missed the first time around.
About two years ago, researchers in New Zealand published a study showing that 95% of peanut allergy diagnostic tests were false positive.
I had a kid on a robotic team I coached who was “deathly” allergic to peanuts. We were at the shop 5-8 hours a night for weeks. Someone donated a 5 gallon bucket of peanuts. Peanuts and peanut dust all over the place.
No issue.
Of course, gluten is the new disease of the week. Certainly there are some few people who have intolerances to peanuts and gluten, but not in the millions.
My daughter had peanut butter when she was one and her lips swelled up. The doctor said to wait a few months and try again. She’s now 4 and still alive and eats peanut butter.
My mom was somewhat the same. The lessons of cleaning I learned from her helped me a lot with my first job as a cook in a restaurant for four years and again as an enlisted Marine living in the barracks, though the incentive to clean in the barracks was not the same as the restaurant or at home with mom. I think you are right, it’s a generational thing. I grew up in the 50s and early 60s and our parents were part of the depression era and WWII generation where that attitude and discipline was a way of life.
Have mom eat a PB&J while breast feeding helps as well. In fact, have mommy eat a lot of different foods while breast feeding. Veggies, meats, wheat, corn meal, fish, PB, etc.
I’ve been guilty of posting an already posted thread but still had engaging Freepers to respond. Many times the titles do not reflect the story.
Well on to the peanuts . . . I discovered Dark Chocolate Dreams Peanut Butter. . .I’m addicted. . .on organic apples. . .wonderful! Our church use to give peanuts out at Christmas time when I was younger in the treat bag. . .now I realize it was a filler but we enjoyed them anyway. No allergies then.
Speaking of peanuts......
A tour bus driver is driving with a bus load of seniors down a highway when he is tapped on his shoulder by a little old lady. She offers him a handful of peanuts, which he gratefully munches up.
After about 15 minutes, she taps him on his shoulder again and she hands him another handful of peanuts.
She repeats this gesture about five more times. When she is about to hand him another batch again, he asks the little old lady, ‘Why don’t you eat the peanuts yourself?’.
‘We can’t chew them because we have no teeth’, she replied.
The puzzled driver asks, ‘Why do you buy them then?’
The old lady replied, ‘We just love the chocolate around them.”
Sadly, even small doses of liberalism causes me to react violently.

Surprise surprise surprise! People generally aren’t allergic to their environment as long as they’re not isolated from it.
