"....The shift in emphasis and tone is noticeable not only on abortion, but also on same-sex marriage, another issue of intense interest to social conservatives.
A few weeks before the November election, in an interview with The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, the governor sidestepped questions about his earlier opposition to abortion, and declined four times to answer directly when asked if abortion should be prohibited after 20 weeks a position he had previously embraced. He also declined to restate his earlier opposition to abortion in cases of rape and incest.
But in a breakout speech in Iowa on Jan. 24, he drew loud applause from the crowd of conservative activists when he declared that he had passed pro-life legislation in Wisconsin and defunded Planned Parenthood.
It was strikingly a different portrayal of abortion than the way he portrayed it in the fall election here, said Charles Franklin, the director of the Marquette Law School Poll, who closely follows Mr. Walker. He has consistently played down the importance of abortion in Wisconsin as an issue.
Mr. Walker does not appear to be rewriting his positions on specific issues; instead he is trying to redraw his political image from a fiscally minded governor who warned his party not to be distracted by divisive social issues to a conservative presidential candidate who will fight hard for these issues. He is also reframing his fight with public employee unions from a fiscal showdown to part of a broader culture war...."

After reading the entire NYT "analysis" piece, you'll see, yet again, that Walker's real crime is that he won't allow himself to be boxed in by attack dogs on the Left.
Jesse Helms used to answer ALL the gotcha questions on abortion (rape, incest, etc.) with this: “When you can show me an unborn child that has committed a capital crime, then I will support an abortion”
About Ted Kennedy, Mario Cuomo, Nancy Pelosi, and other “personally opposed” politicians: “America does not need more public officials suffering from Multiple Personality Disorder.”
The Left has made up the rules.
Gov. Walker has proven that you win by understanding how they play the game and outsmarting them.
Progressives hate him for his ability to navigate this reality and know he’s a threat.
Exactly.
I suggest that everything the MSM reports about the Left needs to be understood to be 180 degrees off.
Walker magnificently outsmarts the media using his Ivy League education.......lol
: )
Will they retired Howard Dean’s “unknowlegable” definition?
It’s something to watch the MSM build up Jeb Bush, but try to destroy Scott Walker. Tells you who they really fear. They are desperate for a Bush candidacy.
Walker inherited a catastrophic situation and has led that state out of the woods.
The Democrat media had great success in “defining” who Romney was in order to keep conservative Republicans from supporting him, thus helping this lousy president win a second term.
It worked so well that they are now going to “define” every Republican front runner, as they smooth the way for their old Leftist nag, Hillary. It only works if Republicans fall for it again.
“Noticeable” to the NYT doesn’t mean what it means to everyone else.
Is it just me, or is the New York Slimes populated with arrogant, ignorant shitheels?
politicians who switch positions because they want to run for a new office should never be elected
and that includes Mitt “severely liberal” Romney
No, Romney is a life-long liberal, who was a liberal Governor who ran as a “conservative”. Romney got what he deserved.
He also was willing to run again for governor despite all the apparent hate thrown his way. As such Walker would have had every right to call Romney a straight up coward for walking away as governor of MA. I agree, the fact that he was a leader to his state is the most important part of what he did as governor, and what he can do potentially as POTUS.
Gosh - they think he should recant and welcome abortion with open arms - one of the Left’s litmus tests. They also claim (along with his detractors here) that he can’t handle the traps being set my the MSM - he seems to be doing pretty good for being such a “loser”...
I’m not backing away from my positions. I’m proudly pro-life,
I believe government has no higher purpose than protecting its citizens, particularly those that cannot fight for themselves like the unborn and elderly.
I am 100% pro-life and believe in protecting life from conception to natural death. As governor, I will protect the sanctity of all human life.
I am proud to be endorsed by Wisconsin Right to Life, which noted that my election “would greatly contribute to building a culture of life.

Since Wisconsin faced a 3.6 billion dollar debt Walker has prioritized jobs. But a pro-life law was passed under him that the lefties still complain about.
And, golly gee, he doesn’t even have an Ivy League degree.
Are you quoting Walker here?
