The Democratic Party lacks a single narrative and must tighten its pitch to voters in order to compete in future elections, an interim report from the Democratic National Committee found.
The report released at the partys winter meeting recommended forming a national project to bring together party leaders, activists and messaging experts to hone in on a theme.
Currently, the party is loosely understood as a long list of policy statements and not with a common set of core values, according to the report.
The review was launched last year shortly after Democrats lost control of the Senate in the midterm elections, while also losing additional seats in the House.
We are Democrats because we believe in an economy where hard work is rewarded, and because we are focused on building a stronger and more secure middle class, DNC Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz (Fla.) said.
The report notes the party has lost 69 seats in the House and 13 seats in the Senate since 2008. It has also given up the majority in 30 state legislatures and 11 governorships in that time.
The party is pushing a six-year plan to win back state legislative chambers across the country in order to have a stronger voice in the 2020 redistricting process.
The report also recommends forming a more comprehensive voter registration project. Democrats should work on pushing state parties to be self-sustaining, while also developing more Democratic leaders at the state level, the report advises.
The full recommendations to be released in May will focus on several other areas as well. Those include exploring ways to peel off more white southern voters, while revving up support among base Democrats. The party will study what prevents some constituencies from voting with Democrats and what motivates drop off and independent voters.
It will also explore reaching voters in specialty media and digital platforms.
Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus mocked the preliminary report Saturday after hearing that it was nine pages long.
Sounds pretty serious, Priebus tweeted.
The GOP launched its own similar review, commonly known as the Republican autopsy, after losing the presidential election in 2012.
May I suggest they go with “Socialism uber alles!!”
Or maybe something less Arian like “Forward”
We are Democrats because we believe in an economy where hard work is rewarded,....by us stealing the hard workers cash to pay for every sloth, miscreant and unemployable everywhere.
The democrat message of “totalitarian socialism is good and will only enslave you a little” should be a big miss every election if it wasn’t for the fact that most of their constituents are completely ignorant of history @-tards.
Not one word of what Schultz said is true.
Why then Debbie is it that all of the signature legislation of the Democrat party rewards people that do not work at all?
Why then Debbie is it that all of the signature legislation of the Democrat punish those that work hard and succeed by taxing the earnings of the successful at an increasingly higher rate the more successful they become?
They had a narrative earlier on, their cradle to grave story of ‘The Life of Julia’ where the government made every stage of her life possible.
Hard to get more focused than “death and taxes.”
GOEBBELS’ PRINCIPLES OF PROPAGANDA
Based upon Goebbels’ Principles of Propaganda by Leonard W. Doob, published in Public Opinion and Propaganda; A Book of Readings edited for The Society for the Psychological Study of Social Issues.
1. Propagandist must have access to intelligence concerning events and public opinion.
2. Propaganda must be planned and executed by only one authority.
a. It must issue all the propaganda directives.
b. It must explain propaganda directives to important officials and maintain their morale.
c. It must oversee other agencies’ activities which have propaganda consequences
3. The propaganda consequences of an action must be considered in planning that action.
4. Propaganda must affect the enemy’s policy and action.
a. By suppressing propagandistically desirable material which can provide the enemy with useful intelligence
b. By openly disseminating propaganda whose content or tone causes the enemy to draw the desired conclusions
c. By goading the enemy into revealing vital information about himself
d. By making no reference to a desired enemy activity when any reference would discredit that activity
5. Declassified, operational information must be available to implement a propaganda campaign
6. To be perceived, propaganda must evoke the interest of an audience and must be transmitted through an attention-getting communications medium.
7. Credibility alone must determine whether propaganda output should be true or false.
8. The purpose, content and effectiveness of enemy propaganda; the strength and effects of an expose; and the nature of current propaganda campaigns determine whether enemy propaganda should be ignored or refuted.
9. Credibility, intelligence, and the possible effects of communicating determine whether propaganda materials should be censored.
10. Material from enemy propaganda may be utilized in operations when it helps diminish that enemy’s prestige or lends support to the propagandist’s own objective.
11. Black rather than white propaganda may be employed when the latter is less credible or produces undesirable effects.
12. Propaganda may be facilitated by leaders with prestige.
13. Propaganda must be carefully timed.
a. The communication must reach the audience ahead of competing propaganda.
b. A propaganda campaign must begin at the optimum moment
c. A propaganda theme must be repeated, but not beyond some point of diminishing effectiveness
14. Propaganda must label events and people with distinctive phrases or slogans.
a. They must evoke desired responses which the audience previously possesses
b. They must be capable of being easily learned
c. They must be utilized again and again, but only in appropriate situations
d. They must be boomerang-proof
15. Propaganda to the home front must prevent the raising of false hopes which can be blasted by future events.
16. Propaganda to the home front must create an optimum anxiety level.
a. Propaganda must reinforce anxiety concerning the consequences of defeat
b. Propaganda must diminish anxiety (other than concerning the consequences of defeat) which is too high and which cannot be reduced by people themselves
17. Propaganda to the home front must diminish the impact of frustration.
a. Inevitable frustrations must be anticipated
b. Inevitable frustrations must be placed in perspective
18. Propaganda must facilitate the displacement of aggression by specifying the targets for hatred.
19. Propaganda cannot immediately affect strong counter-tendencies; instead it must offer some form of action or diversion, or both.
The Life of Julia simply didn’t sell in the south. It was an urban gimmick at best. It surprises me that the whole party thrill is worked up to be something that forty-percent of Democrats won’t buy into. Look around at governor positions now lost....state house seats....county commission seats....etc.
The 2020 census is not that far away and promises to take all this to a different level and damage is something that would take two decades to fix.
There will never be a better time for constitutionalists to focus on the states to restore freedom, for there is open resistance in the air. Despite the resistance, Obama and his henchmen knuckle down on our liberty. With his takeover of the internet, and past examples of NSA, IRS abuse, the rats clearly do not intend to loose the presidency in 2016. They cannot allow the powers that Obama has gathered to fall into conservative hands.
Obama’s support narrows each day and we must take advantage of it.
The longer we avoid peaceful means, the more certain violence becomes.
They only have 2 problems. They are:
1. Morally bankrupt
2. Intellectually bankrupt
loose -> lose
Seriously? The perception of the average Joe is that the donkeys promote a slacker/welfare class. Where most everyone is a victim, and their lot can only be made better via government intervention in the form of more welfare/food stamps/vouchers.
Impossible for a party that boos God to have any values whatsoever, especially at its core.
The message of Dem-Socialists is loud and clear: forget the talking-points and “narratives”. Observe what they do, not what they say.
Continuing to pimp global warming in the face of all evidence to the contrary is a good idea.
They could always ask for another trillion dollars for infrastructure jobs that will never materialize.
“...common set of core values...”
Gay marriage, government run healthcare, more gun control, abortion at any time, higher taxes, larger government, nanny state. Jeez, the list just goes on and on.
Its hard, even impossible, to have a “single narrative” when your electoral base is made up of competing special interest groups that are increasingly at odds with each other over all sorts of major issues.
The Dems are all over the map because their coalition is all over the map. AND, thanks to new media, they can’t really get away with saying different things to different groups and having no one be the wiser for it.
