Hollywood (United States) (AFP) - African-American civil rights groups plan to protest outside Sunday's Oscars show, where every single one of this year's 20 acting nominees is white.
However small, the demonstration will revive debate about diversity at the Oscars-awarding Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, whose voting members are overwhelmingly white and with an average age in their 60s.
"The goal of the protest is to send a message to the Academy, send a message to Hollywood, send a message to the film industry," said Earl Ofari Hutchinson, head of the LA Urban Policy Roundtable group.

So are we saying that there must be black Oscar nominees each and every single year?
If there were numerous black nominees but no black Oscar winners would that still be racist?

If something is good, it should be judged not on racism but on the merits of the performance. There are losers every year, many of whom deserve an award. How is it that Glen Close has never won an award and Cher has? To say that blacks have been purposely blocked out is an overreach in my opinion.
There are now more Hispanics in the US than blacks... odd how there are no similar protests from Hispanics.
Just what we need. As if Hollywood wasn’t bad enough now we will have affirmative action Oscars.

This kind of crap is why I never watch black sitcoms, movies or channels on TV. I am boycotting everything black as far as entertainment goes.
