Tomorrow, November 2nd, marks the 10 anniversary of the murder of Dutch film maker Theo Van Gogh on the streets in Amsterdam –Moroccan provoked by his short film, Submission with a script by then Dutch –Somali political figure Ayaan Hirsi Ali, now a US citizen.
This weekend marks the 10th anniversary of 24/7 Royal Dutch Protective Service protection of Hon. Geert wilders, leader of the Freedom Party (PVV) in the Hague Parliament in The Netherlands. Wilders and his wife have lived in state prison cells, military barracks and now safe houses because of threats against his life for combating the dark forces of Islam seeking to dominate the West. We found out how intense Wilders’ security arrangements are when we made arrangements to speak at my alma mater, Columbia University in October 2009.

Wilders used a metaphor in his speech of Israel as the “canary in the mines of Jihad” fighting for the survival of Western civilization. He noted:
Islam forces Israel to fight, and Israel is not just fighting for itself. Israel is fighting for all of us, for the entire West. Just like those brave American soldiers who landed in Sicily in 1943 and stormed the Normandy beaches in 1944, young Israeli men and women are fighting for our freedom, our civilization.
Ladies and gentlemen, Europe ought to fully back Israel to the hilt in its relentless fight against those that threaten it, whether it is Hezbollah, Hamas or a nuclear Iran.
