Drone on, the government says.
Just not through the night sky. Or close to an airport. Or out of the operator's sight. And probably not winging its way with a pizza or package, any time soon.
Long-anticipated rules proposed Sunday will open an era in which small (under 55 pounds) commercial unmanned aircraft perform routine tasks crop monitoring, aerial photography, inspections of bridges and cell towers, and much more. But not right away. Final rules are probably two to three years away.

More government regulation.
In not all that many years, there will be MILLIONS of these things in the air over the US at any one time. And this is not the only thing changing. The world will be hostile to what we call “humans” in the very near future. I believe if you are under 40 you will probably see that day.
Tyranny is paranoid.
Good ... we can still spy on our neighbors! ... :-) ...
Domino’s Pizza new advertising campaign ... “Pizza delivered in 15 minutes, or the drone is for free!” ... LOL ...
Is possession 9 tenths of the law; ie, if one drops in your backyard or sun roof , can ya keep it/
Yes, more rules. Apart from more taxes, the answer to everything.
flooding the skies with drones can only lead to an era of aviation and terrorist related disasters. Regulation or no regulation, the proliferation of drones equals big-time problems for all of us, IMO.
What we call "Democrats" are already hostile to what we call "humans".
There’s gotta be some rules of the road (so to speak) when vehicles travel in public space, folks. Otherwise... BOOM!
Drones were not only invented long after the Founding States had ratified the Constitution, but the states have never ratified the Constitution to grant the feds the specific power to regulate drones. So the Constitutions silence about drones means that government power to regulate drones is a constitutionally unchecked 10th Amendment-protected state power issue.
So in terms that Jefferson might have used, anticipated federal drone regulations will not be law, will be altogether void, and of no force.
The problem is that since local and state lawmakers are probably as clueless about the corrupt federal governments constitutionally limited powers as the vast majority of voters who elected them are, when the feds shout JUMP concerning their constitutionally indefensible drone regulations, local and state lawmakers are probably going to reply with a weak voice, how high?”
Then the feds will claim that drone regulations come under the Interstate Commerce Clause.
But even before that if a drone that only travels in a very small range could potentially interfere with a flightpath then the FAA becomes involved and then the full weight of the feds follows close behind.
Also big business will weigh in and get their libertarian shills to whine about how difficult it would be to manage their drone fleets if private companies had to "wade through a maze of varying state regulations" in order to make sure they weren't violating any laws.
The laws regarding drones will be enacted mostly at the federal level. Most people will think this sounds about right regardless of the constitutionality.
I’m so sorry. Please accept my sincerest apology. I thought it was all about them flyin’ drones. So, all this hullabaloo is about pantless drones. Who woulda thunk it?
Let's just say I was skirting the issue, but I probably deserve to be kilt over it.
Well, considering the consequences, and what might be revealed, I’d much rather prefer NOT having you kilt over.
