"Just curious, has anyone ever just bought a bunch of waterfront land and made their own port to avoid these jackasses?"

I believe Mr. Buffet of BNSF Railroad ownership has recently completed construction of a large container ship facility down on the west coast of Mexico.

Say . . . .isn't he a huge RAT campaign donor?

All it would be is...

"Nice dock you got here. It'd be a shame if something was to happen..."

Dock workers are the Free Traitors handymen, they must be subdued. The parade of cheap Chinese made crap must go on.

Not sure about Buffet and BNSF but the Kansas City Southern Railway owns a port facility on the western coast of Mexico and another in Panama for trans-shipment there. Both are alternatives to using the West Coast ports. Wiki has a pretty good article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kansas_City_Southern_Railway

As regards BNSF, local observation of a line running E-W out of Tulsa will show multiple stack trains every day, running full containers eastbound and returning empties westbound. I can’t observe it every day but I’ve not noticed a volume change recently. This line connects to the BNSF Transcon at Avard OK.

“Robots”

You hit the nail on the head.
Robots are the solution for the shipping ports.
