WASHINGTON (AP) It wasn't supposed to be like this for Republicans. A month into their control of both chambers of Congress, they are confronting the very real possibility of a shutdown of the Homeland Security Department later this month.
Instead of advancing a conservative agenda and showing voters they can govern, the GOP has been unable to overcome Senate Democrats' stalling tactics in a dispute over immigration.
"I suppose elections have consequences except in the United States Senate," complained GOP Rep. Mick Mulvaney of South Carolina, summing up the frustration for many House Republicans. "Tell me how it would be different if Harry Reid were still running the place," he added, naming the Senate Democratic leader who was booted into the minority in November's midterm elections.
Although their party is now setting the floor schedule and calling hearings, Republicans are finding to their chagrin that important things haven't changed from when they were in the Senate minority...

The ‘limits’ of their ability to do anything are contained in their jellyfish spines and lack of gonads. Leadership my butt.
Why should I care about that the AP has to say? I’m not accepting their propaganda.
Shut down homeland security. Just another bureau that lets zer0 spy on Americans. and AP should require a barf alert.
Uniparty BS.
There are not enough patriots to do anything.
Ding Harry poisoned the well when he invoked the ‘nuclear option’. What’s good for the goose is good for the gander.
GOP leadership are a bunch of useless, spineless worms. I don’t know why we even bother having elections in America anymore.
Implement the nuclear option. Harry wasn’t afraid to use it.
And they actually believe their feckless cowardice is going to help them win the big prize in 2016. geesh
Meanwhile they sit back fat and sassy with their money and exempt from Obmacare health care and let the country burn around all of us. We watch our freedoms slipping daily.
As far as I’m concerned, Boehner, McConnell and the rest of the leadership cabal might just as well be Obama.
This is what happens when your “leaders” are not really leaders, just career politicians who have attained positions of power.
Contrast what’s going on now with the first 100 days of the Contract with America in 1994
Did Newt have a GOP Senate to work with him on that - I’m thinking no?
Elections have consequences - the consequence of the last election and the electorate’s failure to elect a Democrat majority is that they’ll suffer until such time a Democrat majority is elected once again. Then they’ll get their revenge for not electing them in the first place, and MAYBE, after a time, they’ll think about doing their jobs.
Were we to have ‘balance’ in our media, the newspapers and television broadcasts would be openly pointing this out. Instead, it is story after story about how Republicans are at fault for failing to do their jobs. After all, the minority Democrats are bravely fighting the thug tactics of the Repulicans in congress.
Gaffer, I am not picking a fight, but it looks like Boehner came through on this one. He (and others) passed it right through the House, but now it seems to be held up by the Senate squishiness. Squishiness, not only from the GOPe but it looks to me like the Tea Party Conservative leadership is folding like cheap suit.
Is this any different from Harry Reid’s Senate?
Anyone in almost any position can do things well outside the supposed limits of that position. A senior corporate director told me (approximately), Most people are terrified to take the responsibility thats inherent in their job description. If its not within the power of your position but you think its right, just do it. If it works out well somebody else will take credit. If it doesnt youll either get spanked or rebuked, both of which you will survive. Youll move things forward and get things done. You discover the limits of your power when somebody is able to come down on you and stop you, which they probably wont. So, Republicans can do more than they are but theyre either trying to play by the rules or afraid to color outside the lines. I got a secretary in my senators office to call the import inspection office that was holding a shipment of medication Id ordered and refusing to ship it. I got it two days later. Did she have the power to do that? Technically no.
The democrats are fighting.
The GOP is sitting in their clubhouses, sipping tea.
FIGHT Republicans. You now have the majority, act like it.
Bump.
Fight back, Republicans. Roll out all of you big sticks, and use every one.
Enthusiastically.
Day after day.
Yes GOP took House and Senate in 1994
>>”Were we to have balance in our media, the newspapers and television broadcasts would be openly pointing this out.””<<
FoxNews is the closest thing to balance we’ll ever get and if the ratings are accurate, Fox is killing the TV media. This crew of clowns in the Senate ‘leadership’ is just so timid or complicit, they won’t fight fire with fire.
Kudos......beautiful....nails it.

LAUGH BREAK After last night's evening news segment, I keep wondering if Michelle and the kids are still alive (snort).
The news segment was a perfectly-staged photo-op---- Boehner is sitting at a desk surrounded by smiling Repubs----signing a bill....reminiscent of the past (when Obama was president).
ROTFLOL.
Obama musta went ballistic. Probably went and put a chokehold on Valerie.
