It’s very true what you say. I find NYC very safe and the murder rate is quite low. I do think, though, that crime tends to plummet in freezing weather. Makes a lot of sense, actually. But you can’t change freepers’ minds about NYC. Sadly, they just hate it.

I have been out west for 38 years. Anything under 40, gives me the shakes : )

I remember NYC in the bad old days. The transformation is nothing short of remarkable.

No murders for 10 days because everyone is inside due to weather conditions should eventually EXPLODE from its "cabin fever" stage to "murder as normal."

. . . has anyone done a headcount in the morgue ?Yep, 27 bodies and 23 heads just like yesterday.
I'm sure once the snow melts the missing heads will show up.

Snow, cold, nasty weather. It’s along the lines of the old unofficial weather motto for Minot North Dakota: 40 below keeps the riff-raff out.

Like any big (and small city) there are neighborhoods and streets that I avoid late at night, if not at all times. But for the most part I feel safer walking the streets of NYC 24/7 than in any other big city (and a lot of small cities) that I have been to in the country. Even the subways that I ride (Manhattan, Brooklyn) are relatively safe. Sure, I need to be alert and street smart, but those are survivor skills that everyone should have.

Peace on earth of no policing for fear of false accusations or being killed as targets?
