A B.C. Supreme Court judge has ordered the National Post to pay climate scientist Andrew Weaver $50,000 in damages in a defamation suit over articles published in 2009 and 2010.
At the time of publication, Mr. Weaver was the Canada Research Chair in climate modelling and analysis in the School of Earth and Ocean Sciences at the University of Victoria. He had also contributed to the United Nations’ Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. Mr. Weaver is currently a Green Party MLA.

So, what is the likely result? Comments sections will likely be eliminated as will "letters to the editor". The public loses another avenue to express themselves because publications will be afraid of being sued over what their commenters have to say.
This is insane, and although this is Canada (where people do not have free speech rights) I can see similar things coming to the USA.
Mr. Weaver is currently a Green Party MLA.

Much ado about nothing. Canada can be weird.
There is no global warming. Climate changes at my property 6 times a day— none of it is from man. It is from high and low pressure systems and la nina in the Pacific. These maniacs are lying to get control of you!!

We are supposed to get -1 degree global warming tonight with a potential -15 to -20 degrees of global wind chill. Currently, there is 26 inches of white climate change piled up on my deck. Why would I ever consider leaving here for six weeks in Florida beginning next Thursday?
