Feds won’t release IRS targeting documents
The Hill ^ | February 10, 2015 | Bob Cusack

The Obama administration is refusing to publicly release more than 500 documents on the IRS’s targeting of Tea Party groups.

Twenty months after the IRS scandal broke, there are still many unanswered questions about who was spearheading the agency’s scrutiny of conservative-leaning organizations.

The Hill sought access to government documents that might provide a glimpse of the decision-making through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request. The Hill asked for 2013 emails and other correspondence between the IRS and the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA). The request specifically sought emails from former IRS official Lois Lerner and Treasury officials, including Secretary Jack Lew, while the inspector general was working on its explosive May 2013 report that the IRS used “inappropriate criteria” to review the political activities of tax-exempt groups.

TIGTA opted not to release any of the 512 documents covered by the request, citing various exemptions in the law. The Hill recently appealed the FOIA decision, but TIGTA denied the appeal. TIGTA also declined to comment for this article.

Why doesn’t Congress have a armour clad paramilitary police force like the Forest Ranger and AG department so they can March in there gun drawn throw chains on the doors and take what they want? The IRS has this and they do it all the time.

Jack Lew - wasn't he the scumbag who supervised the scurrilous lawsuit attacks upon Sarah Palin in Alaska?

Wouldn't surprise me if he is found responsible for burning down her church.

I pray to the Lord that these vermin are exposed and brought to justice. Is that too much to ask, Lord?

The IRS is nothing more than a weapon to use against conservative groups; accountable only to the Regime.

Of course it does. We all know this. Why else would they not release the documents if they were innocent? Criminals, all them.

Still a ‘hit’.

The sycophants insulate him too well for something so obvious. imho

The only way to cure the IRS is to shut it down. Its just become to rogue and too large. There is no accountability whatsoever. If Congress cannot control it then it needs to go.

Technically they have their Sargeant at Arms which has some enforcement authorities - there is no reason why they could not expand this to allow just what your stating.

Congress has the authority to arrest and imprison those found in Contempt. The power extends throughout the United States and is an inherent power (does not depend upon legislated act)

If found in Contempt the person can be arrested under a warrant of the Speaker of the House of Representatives or President of the Senate, by the respective Sergeant at Arms.

Statutory criminal contempt is an alternative to inherent contempt.

Under the inherent contempt power Congress may imprison a person for a specific period of time or an indefinite period of time, except a person imprisoned by the House of Representatives may not be imprisoned beyond adjournment of a session of Congress.

Imprisonment may be coercive or punitive.

So due to the lack of response they could find the AGENCY in contempt and proscribe the Sergeant at Arms to conduct a raid to enforce compliance by obtaining the appropriate materials/evidence? Or is that a bit beyond the allowed imprisonment of specific personnel?
