Can Scott Walker be president without a college degree?
Milwaukee Journal Sentiel ^ | 2/10/15 | Albert Hunt

Supporters say the 47-year-old has more diverse qualifications than the other Republicans: A non-Washington Republican who has won tough contests in a blue state, taken on labor unions and has appeal to the conservative faith community and the business constituency.

There is one credential that he doesn't have: a post-high school education. America hasn't elected a president without a college degree since Harry Truman.

Privately, some strategists in both parties suspect that this could increasingly become troublesome for voters, a little in the nominating process, more so in a general election, particularly in battleground upscale suburban areas. If this seems illogical — it does — try raising the issue at the next coffee klatch or cocktail party; you're likely to be surprised by the responses.

I knew this was coming. Of course he can. In fact, it is in his favor and he should flaunt it.

For me, if the guy has an Ivy League degree, then he's probably no good. The "super smart" academics just seem to make a lot of stupid decisions.

Scott Walker has no college degree? I like him better than ever.

And I wonder if the Hollywood Elite (who almost never have degrees) will laugh at him and call him an idiot?

I think this is a PLUS, to his advantage. He hasn’t been tainted by the Yale, Harvard think tanks who brain washed him into a globalist. Hail Scott Walker..!!!

Seems to have worked out pretty well for Bill Gates and quite a few other highly successful people. College is for those that can’t do it on their own. :-)

Actually, in the current student loan “crisis” he could use this to his advantage if his marketing people do it right. But they’ll really tick off a lot of schools.

They went after Palin because she wasn’t one of the club. I think she had a two year community college degree and then went to university.

Walker will take the very same. I think he has a better chance though. He’s very smart, a whole lot smarter than the bright boys in the WH currently.

Sure, why not since we have never seen this President’s college degree and other live journey documentation.

America hasn’t elected a president without a college degree since Harry Truman.....And therein lies the beginning of many of our problems.

The problem Walker faces is an electorate that worships the idea of a college degree. Sending your kid to college has long been part of the middle class American dream and now it’s almost an expectation among the upper middle class. There are plenty of reasons why college isn’t all its cracked up to be but the romantic fantasy of college clouds any rational arguments against it.

This is potentially a problem for Walker because it’s going to be hard to convince people that someone without a college degree is capable of being President. Especially so after 28 years of Ivy League educated President’s. An entire generation of voters has been conditioned to view such an education as a prerequisite to become President. As ridiculous as it is, it’s a problem Walker faces.

Just because one is educated, does not mean one is smart.

It just means one is educated. In what field/topic is another question altogether.

Hillary Clinton's master's thesis was on Saul Alinsky. Haw will that fly against no college degree at all?

Bill Gates, Steve Jobs, Larry Ellison -- the list goes on.

And Walker DID go to college. He left in what would have been his senior year.
