NASHVILLE As the Legislature resumes its regular session, lawmakers are facing a raft of bills dealing with guns, ranging from the new-to-Tennessee idea of exempting firearm purchases from sales taxes to revival of efforts to let handgun permit holders carry their weapons in local parks.

I can hear the dingbats hitting the floor, foaming at the mouth, all over the 57 states.
Sales tax holiday = buy online and pick up at a local dealer, paying only a transfer fee. Most often $25.
Just make sure the online retailer has no stores in your state.
Yes, it is a beautiful sound!
I’m not sure how that local dealer pickup idea will fly. As a 40-plus-year FFLD I don’t have any interest at all in receiving guns for deadbeat tightwads who don’t want to buy locally-— for just the price of a transfer fee. I’ve done it for rare and out-of-production collector guns but not for new guns. Since interstate sales have to go thru licensees on both ends there is also a liability/warrantee problem for the receiving dealer. I just don’t see this idea working out for anybody but buttdraggers who don’t deliver any kind of service.
Most dealers are happy to do the transfers, call some of your local gun shops and ask them. All they do is the background check and collect $25-$40.
I would think decently priced transfers are a good way to generate traffic into your store. I have bought a handgun from the guy who does my transfers.
The last two guns I bought, the dealer had to order them. From my standpoint this is even less convenient than if I had bought them on the internet and just paid the final transfer fee. Why? I had to drive to the dealer twice. Plus, I paid a lot more than if I had ordered them. I know the dealer likes this, but when I discovered that the dealer would not even help me with any warranty problems that arose, it seemed that I was being charged extra money for no service at all.
