I watched part of this speech on youtube. This was the most offensive presentation Obama has given since he entered the national stage in 2007. Not just the words, but the way they were delivered – and where he was delivering it – all play into it. It is as though he was scolding them and knew they wouldn’t like it.It’s like he was the teacher and they were the class, and yesterday the entire class flunked his test so he’s “telling them how the real world works”.
Except his world is a fantasy world and he has no clue what he is talking about.
Either that or its worse: He’s building the rhetorical foundation upon which he will build justifications for near future (the next year or so) actions.
Time will tell. Sometimes I sincerely hope my tag line is hyperbole, but the more water flows under the bridge, the more convinced I am that we are gonna get wet.
Obama knows his time is short.

Thank you for that vivid description. I couldn’t watch it because I can’t even hear his odious, condescending voice without raising my blood pressure to the danger point.
His world is a fantasy world, in one sense, because he believes himself to be the leader of the new caliphate. He is a Sunni, having attended a madrassa in 98% Sunni Indonesia for several years. But he’s currently trying to put Shiite Iran in charge of the ME. He honestly thinks he’s the person who’s going to unite them and be the new caliph of the totally new caliphate. (I think his wife doesn’t want to be part of it, however, and as much as I dislike her, I cheer her refusal to wear a head or face covering at the Saudi king’s memorial service.)
I hope we make it through the next two years without seeing a minaret constructed next to the WH.
I agree completely. And despite what I've been saying about him for eight long years now I'll admit to being a bit stunned myself. Of all of things he could have said that one strikes me as appallingly insensitive, historically uninformed, wildly irrelevant, and deliberately and blatantly offensive. "Yeah, they just burned a prisoner alive in gasoline, but we have to remember that half a millennium ago Christians did some bad things too" is the resort of a ham-handed fool completely devoid of any rational moral sense. In short, I knew he was bad and expected very little and still he amazed me.
Your tagline is definitely within the realm of possibility, reality. I’m haunted by it everyday.
