Boehner: Pope Francis to address Congress on Sept. 24
Fox News ^

Pope Francis will address a joint meeting of the House and Senate on Sept. 24, becoming the first pontiff to do so, House Speaker John Boehner said Thursday.

"We're humbled that the Holy Father has accepted our invitation and certainly look forward to receiving his message on behalf of the American people," Boehner, R-Ohio, told reporters.

Boehner is Catholic and extended the invitation for the pope to speak to lawmakers.

During his planned trip next fall, Francis is also expected to visit the White House as well as speak at the United Nations in New York and participate in a massive Catholic rally for families in Philadelphia.

Isn’t this a violation of the “wall of separation”? Kids are suspended from school if they say, “God Bless You” when somebody sneezes because they said it on government property but THE POPE can blow hot air in Congress? This is unconstitutional. Especially if he starts pimping political issues like illegal aliens and “da vioment”.

Did Congress get permission from the White House before extending an invitation?

Dhimmicrats will say it was OK.

This gives the pope the chance to preach his leftist political ideology which fits nicely with the RINO’s and Democrats, so I really think he will be welcomed by all.

Will Sheila Jackson Lee be there 6 hours early so she can be the first one to slobber and spittle on him when he comes through the door?

I am not a fan of Boehner and am suspicious of his motives for inviting Francis to speak in front of Congress. Francis is naive to have accepted. As the current title holder of apostolic succession, it seems strangely blasphemous to use the vicar of Christ to influence American politics. I also believe that with prayer, the holy spirit will act in a way to make this right. Shame on Boehner for parading the Pope around so his buddies can make some cash off of illegal immigrants.

This is old news. The invitation was in March of 2014. Looks like the Dems are Pope pushing....after all, he's a pure socialist.

I also believe he has dementia.

I guess inviting this Commie is Boner’s way of being “fair and balanced.” O’Gasbag will applaud!

I predict a pro-amnesty speech on the horizon. I don’t think the Dems are going to miss this one!!!

"Isn’t this a violation of the “wall of separation”?"

"Three days before George Washington took the oath of office as the first president of the United States, Congress passed the following resolution: Resolved, That after the oath shall have been administered to the President, he, attended by the Vice President and members of the Senate and House of Representatives, shall proceed to St. Paul’s Chapel, to hear divine service. Accordingly, the Right Rev. Samuel Provoost (1742–1815), newly appointed chaplain of the United States Senate and first Episcopal bishop of New York, performed “divine service” at St. Paul's Chapel on April 30, 1789, immediately following Washington’s inauguration."

For what purpose? To tell Congress to pass more bills for redistributing wealth around? Whatever it is it will be good cover for Boehner and McConnell to keep going along with everything obama wants.

I guess I'm just one of a few on this board who is very uncomfortable with this or any other papal figure addressing a meeting of our U.S. Congress for religious/political purposes.

Is the Dalai Lama next to deliver a speech, or the Archbishop of Canterbury, or Louis Farrakhan, the head of the Nation of Islam.....or the Rev. Franklin Graham, or the venerable Patriarch of Constantinople, or....

If one or all of these religious leaders are not welcome to address the congress, why not...if precedent is set with this or any other pope?

The Dalai Lama attended this year's National Prayer Breakfast. He was also awarded the Congressional Gold medal by George W. Bush.

I suppose Congress could get around objections by inviting Francis in his capacity as a head of Vatican City state and government.

I believe Pope Francis will be the first Communist head of state to address a joint session of Congress since Boris Yeltsin in 1992. Well, there is also Barack Obama.
