Brian Williams’ Tall Tale (his chopper whopper) Raises New Challenge For NBC News
Variety ^ | February 5, 2015 | Brian Steinberg

Posted on 02/05/2015 1:27:44 PM PST by Zakeet

The waters have been choppy for NBC News in recent years, with its “Today” franchise having ceded ground to ABC’s “Good Morning America” and its Sunday-morning mainstay “Meet the Press” struggling to find a new identity after the death of longtime host Tim Russert. Amidst that chaos, Brian Williams was supposed to be the anchor – in both senses of the word.

Now Williams, whose “NBC Nightly News” is the most watched evening newscast in the United States, has added to the challenges facing the NBCUniversal news division.

[Snip]

What makes Williams’ admission worse, according to one person familiar with the situation, is that he had been counseled in the past by senior NBC News executives to stop telling the story in public. The advice, this person said, was not heeded.

[Snip]

Can NBC News truly do anything? ... Williams is more or less the face of NBC’s signature news division. To reprimand him is to cast aspersion on the entire operation.

This recent episode is the worst thing to hit our nitwork since exploding gas tanks ... it has tainted our network’s newscast ... people are laughing at our flagship product and at our darling MSNBC ... and as a result, our credibility is taking a hit ... and broadcast news ratings are falling into the toilet!

Can NBC News truly do anything?

Of course! Find scandals at the other networks and broadcast the heck out of them! Now let us tell you about Walter Cronkite, I.F. Stone, Walter Duranty...

Tim Russert died almost seven years ago. That is hardly “recent years” in the tv infotainment industry.

Why would anyone watch NBC news after this?

There is no prevaricating here. If you were shot down in a helicopter, you will remember it. If you were not shot down and claim you were, you are making it up out of whole cloth. It is that simple.

Brian Williams has ALWAYS been a stupid asshat.

Now, we have irrefutable evidence that Brian Williams is a stupid, LYING, asshat.

Furthermore, we have no reason to suspect that he will ever be anything BUT a stupid, lying, asshat.

PBS fired Juan Williams for less. How can you justify keeping an admitted liar on the job, especially one who repeated the lie over the years?
