Israeli travel group Hebro Travel is to hold the first gay tour of WWII concentration camp Auschwitz, it's been revealed.
The tour is marketed as 'The Poland and Prague pride trip'.
In addition to the visit to the historical site, the trip – taking place from 7-16 August – will take in various Jewish heritage tours, also visiting Krakow and Warsaw before ending up in Prague for the Czech Republic's Pride Festival.
Jayson Littman, founder of Hebro Travel – a company for 'gay Jews and those who love us' – last week told the Jewish Daily: 'I knew I was touching on uncharted territory.'
'I kept hearing: "Who wants to go on a trip like that?" But many more people said it's a wonderful idea. And surprisingly few realize how many gay people were murdered in the Holocaust.'
He added: 'We're working out the details of the actual visits to the camps. It'll probably involve laying a wreath, having a rabbi there from the local community, and inviting someone from the local LGBT population to speak as well.'
Last month saw the seventieth anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.
From June 5-14, the group will also be hosting a '10-day Israel adventure', which will cover Tel Aviv Pride.

Between 5,000 to 15,000 homosexuals were sent to the camps. Out of 10,000,000 people who were murdered in them. And some homosexuals were released after undergoing castration or other medical experiments.
