I call them the Busybody Brigade (The BB for short). The Lefts army of activists who look for problems that dont actually exist, and solve them with restrictions that dont actually work.
Their motto: There should be a law .
They are meddlesome. They are relentless. And they are on a quest to influence almost every decision you make, from sunrise to sunset. Its all in an attempt to better the collective and control your life.
Let them, help you. After all, it takes a village.
The BB is alive and well in Seattle, where a new ordinance on the books sets rules on what can go in the trash. Its complete garbage.
From the Seattle Times: Under an ordinance taking effect Jan. 1, food scraps are compostable material, welcome in food-and-yard waste containers, but not garbage cans. Ditto for pizza boxes, paper towels and napkins.
[Garbage truck] drivers will watch for the materials, and inform the city about violators who after a six-month warning phase could face fines of $1 for each offense. The new city-enforced kitchen surveillance program would begin with a warning period, and advance over time to include $50 fines per offense to owners of apartments and commercial properties.
(Note to renters in Seattle: Hate your landlord? Buy an extra rotisserie chicken and throw it away in a clear garbage bag. Thatll show em. Fight the power!)

All-Around Everywhere-You-Look Nanny State PING!

Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience.
― C.S. Lewis
Quite frankly, there are just as many petty tyrants, blue noses and busybodies on there right as one the left.
“The more numerous the laws, the more corrupt the republic.” -Tacitus
There are hundreds of reasons why I am a small government conservative. This is just one of them. Composting is sensible, but it should not be compelled by government force.
Thanks for one of the greatest quotes ever.

My favorite words in the Constitution, and they occur more than once, ar e”Congress shall make no law”.

“Progressive” politicians are like arsonists — they set firs in order to put them out and be hailed as heroes.
“There ought to be a law” is a convoluted and yet publicly acceptable way of threatening violence and murder on people.
You’re welcome...
It’s almost surprising how often its useful.
“Really up-to-date liberals do not care what people do, as long as it is compulsory.”
— George Will
What is not forbidden is mandatory.
Can you imagine the scene at the courthouse on Monday morning...Your Honor, I got this $1.00 ticket for disposing of my watermelon rinds in the garbage....I’m certain that those rinds will be introduced into evidence and I’d just like to ascertain that those rinds are mine and if so, I’ll ashamedly pay the just penalty for doing so....
And how will they enforce these laws? The costs and time involved with enforcing their stupid laws will cause further headaches. Liberals are hopeless...but dangerous.
I wrote a similar essay on âtheir ought to be a lawâ here on FR once. It was on a thread involving mandatory seat belt laws or something similar. My essay even here was met with mixed results. So yes the problem of interventionist law making exists equally on the left and the right. I do also recall characterized advocating for new safety laws as an act of cowardice. My characterization was not well received.
Why did this convert some letters to Cyrillic?
