An explosive new report about “deadbeat politicos” revealed Friday that civil rights activist and MSNBC celebrity the Rev. Al Sharpton owes the federal government tens of thousands of dollars in fines and $880,000 in debt from his ill-fated 2004 presidential campaign.
And that’s on top of the $4.5 million Sharpton owes in back taxes.

He has, in a way. The 900k is a private debt, but the 4.5 million is public. I don't believe that the IRS will pursue it. They've been instructed not to, either explicitly or implicitly.
If you or I owed the IRS money, would they back off from collecting????? Why does sharpton get special treatment???
Well, most of it looks like it is not tax arrearage. I wonder who he owes to?
I know someone who went to jail for tax evasion, on a far smaller amount of money that what $$harpton owes.
But then he’s white, so that must be where the difference lies.
He’s got some weird arrangement with most of his stuff in trust. So they can garnish what his trust pays him but can’t raid the trust. IIRC which I might well not.
Obviously, you and I would be hogtied, collected, evicted, wage-garnished if we owed money to the IRS.
Anything I say about Al Sharpton and the IRS is, of course, speculation. But, wouldn’t you think that if there was a credible payment plan, it would have been mentioned?

In this land of laws, not of men, I’m sure the rest of us would be visiting the White House over 80 times as a “presidential advisor” with $5.5 million owed to Uncle Sam. Uh…no. We’d be in the Big House and our family living in the street because the IRS had sold everything we owned to collect “their money.”
