I had a Comcast cable on my house when I bought it. At first, they were at my door every other week trying to sign me up. After a few months of that, we got a letter telling us that they thought we were stealing cable, which is illegal. I called them and told them to get their damn cable off my house, and I have never had to deal with them again.

I’ve had Comcast for the past three years - never a problem. Switched from ATT, much better speed and reliability.

We bought an antenna and can get much more free TV than we could ever watch. Antenna coat about $300 and they last about 10 years before replacement. We are in a remote area so the cheap little things advertised on TV will not work.

Bert, I have Comcast but I did have Verizon DSL for years (no TV at all after they switched to digital). My DSL speed was 1.3 down, about 700 up. My telephone line was so bad that I could only hear certain people on the phone but Verizon didn't want to hear about that.

Switched to Comcast, 30 down, 6k up, phone line clear and television. Yes, it is costing me more (although for the first year it was cheaper) but it is reliable.

I looked into satellite but they have internet data caps that are way too low for me and don't have nearly the speed that comcast provides. Verizon never will wire our county for FIOS so Comcast is our only choice.

I am a gentle, respectful, and general lovable FReeper, but I HATE Comcast.

When you hire spoiled liberal LIV brats this is what you get. I’m sure many of them are freshly out of college (indoctrination school) too and think they are geniuses for changing their customer’s names because they wouldn’t buy their upgrades or complained about poor service...

I guess I am the only sentient being in North America whose dealings with Comcast have been positive.

Probably because I don’t have cable TV (cut the cord years ago), just internet service, which has been quite good and exceedingly reliable. They took over from Roadrunner which seemed to have an outage every other week.

My only complaint is that the price has inched up over time and I’m now paying close to $70 monthly.

Seems to me that the person at Comcast just invalidated their contract and bill. Since the bill in not in your Legal Name then Comcast would be unable to collect the bill. If Comcast said it was a mistake and you still owe, tell them to sue you because you want Comcast to explain how their ‘mistake’ became an offensive word and not a ‘typo’ to a jury!

Raul Julia, now there was a great actor (flaming liberal, however): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ra%C3%BAl_Juli%C3%A1 Hard to believe he’s been dead for more than 20 years already.

The name of the company McAuliffe made well over $8 million before it cratered was Global Crossing.

Reminds me of a church in a nearby city that, quite a while back, had a family that stopped going to their church. Subsequently, the family had not one but two or possibly three visits to their very home by some upper-ranking staff of the church (that I will call ‘agents’), demanding that the family begin attending their church again, even threatening them—demanding the money (back payments!) that the family would have made had they still attended. Word had it, the family had given a lot of money to the church over the time they were still members, so apparently the church’s pastor (or imperious leader) became indignant and sent his Gestapo out to nudge the family. From what I understand, the family eventually had to hire both an attorney and a PI to go after the church. I think that finally got them off their backs.

But to add, in all sincerity, this church was pretty much a cult back then, and believe it or not is still in existence now, and has its own college (as it did back then). The last I heard, the church attendees are not allowed to interpret the Word of God for themselves (I kind of have doubts as to whether they actually use the Bible, maybe their own ‘gospel’ like the JW). The pastor tells them what it means and what to do. The men and women, and children, are held to strict standards—the men must have very short hair, wear suits and ties, the women must always wear long skirts or dresses that fit loosely, long hair, and no makeup (and the women and girls must dress that way every day).

There was a teenage girl that worked with me in a grocery store once, a very long time ago, and she and her family were members of this church. She eventually ran away from home and had a mental breakdown. I pray she is doing ok now.

You re right, Global Crossing, insider Washington hose job on all of us commoners.

I donated to Terry back in the late 90’s, took about 30k of my retirement savings.

I guess he needs it more than me.

Here we have the alternative of WOW! Frankly I won't do business with a company that advertises itself as an unserious company with its name. WOW is an appropriate name for a beach trinket store but not a major cable company. The neighbors who use it have all the same complaints that Comcast customers have. Some keep their money costs down by switching back and forth once or twice a year but their inconvenience and blood pressure costs make up for their reduction in billing.
I only use internet, not having or desiring a TV and keep getting hit with increases because I won't upgrade my TV package. It is an argument every couple of months. Wowie Zowie is aparently worse.

I actually run my credit report two times every year, one of the reasons is Comcast’s history of trying to collect on non-existent monies years later. My wife was told she owed money on an account addressed in Texas from a period of time when she didn’t live in Texas (never has) and in fact was deployed on a ship. She actually wanted to pay it but I convinced here to fight it.

They do stink but certain municipalities and counties thought they were doing everyone a favor by limiting access to certain companies and now we have monopolies so we don’t have much of a choice.

Yeah. It was his filming “The Burning Season” that likely contributed to his untimely death the same year (1994).
