....In a country that demands women adhere to a strict dress code in public (face and hair covered, and long, flowing robes), Obama went with a flowing blue top, black pants and no head covering.....
.....Obama does not make fashion choices lightly, particularly on the world stage. Her fashion choice comes as the late Saudi King Abdullah's legacy on women is considered in light of the ascension of Crown Prince Salman to the throne.
It's also a more social-media-friendly version of political messages delivered overtly by other first ladies.

Got hypocrisy?
This phrase “bold political statement” is rapidly becoming the media meme. I heard it TWICE in one hour on the so-called “news” radio in Miami this morning during rush hour.
No, for once, I’m actually on her side.
Personally, I think the only reason that her Muslim husband hasn’t installed a minaret at the WH is that Michelle objects to the idea of having to live like any other piece of Muslim cattle, er, wives.
So I think she was right this time. Many foreign women do not wear head coverings at Saudi events, btw, and I think the only reason they blurred her face on TV is that her husband is a Muslim.
Make no mistake, Michelle wasn’t making a political statement, she was pissed at feeling dissed, considering her high level of self importance.
Good for her. I’ll give credit when due.
In a country that demands women adhere to a strict dress code in public
Michael LaVaughn is NOT A WOMAN.
BINGO!
Good for her to stand up with those 8th century barbarians. Too bad they didn’t make a statement about supporting terrorists.
Pray America is waking up
of all the women who probably SHOULD consider wearing a burqua...
This is the first thing this First Lady has done that I applaud.
Now back to the business of starving our American Schoolchildren.
What’s wrong with Saudi Arabia, don’t they have any paper bags? I admit, it would take three...but they can afford it.
Wonder if they’d say this, had SARAH done the same...?
If a Republican First Lady had done this, she would be the quintessential "ugly American" showing lack of respect for other cultures.
Everyone knows that wookies are not held to the same clothing requirements in Saudi Arabia.
Everyone knows that wookies are not held to the same clothing requirements in Saudi Arabia.
I agree.
Not just no, but hell no! They don’t stop bashing that lady!
Absolutely.
Laura Bush has been there, done that. I don’t remember many comments from the MSM then. http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2008/05_04/LauraBushSaudiAP_468x296.jpg
