McRAE, Ga. (AP) — Elrey "Bud" Runion posted an ad on Craigslist seeking to buy a piece of his youth, a replica of the 1966 Ford Mustang convertible he bought after returning from the Vietnam War decades ago.

A potential seller drew him to a small farming town in southern Georgia where authorities found the couple's SUV on Monday. Nearby, they discovered the body of Runion, 69, and his 66-year-old wife, June, authorities said. Both had been shot in the head.

Ronnie Adrian "Jay" Towns, 28, of McRae, was accused Tuesday of killing the Runions, a couple from Marietta, Georgia, who were known for their charitable works throughout the South: from storm-damaged Alabama towns and impoverished pockets of West Virginia to housing projects in the Atlanta suburbs.

Here's the scumbag.

A tragic story of a couple enjoying their retirement, but making a horrible, misguided mistake.

I hope this asswipe’s cellmate is the biggest, ugliest, nastiest piece of garbage they have in the prison.

Bought an RV on craigslist in a small, fairly remote area.

Called the local police and told them where I was going, and what I was doing, before I went in.

Turned out fine, the seller was legit.
The trick is knowing which are legit, and which aren’t. Some people are just too trusting.

...making a horrible, misguided mistake.

There are many good people that have come to grief via craigslist and under these circumstances.

I would not respond to a craigslist listing with less than two concealed firearms, a hidden backup and an open phone line.

There are too many of these low-life pieces of human excrement out there.

If creepy eyes were evidence, this guy would be guilty.

I’ll have to remember the local police idea if I go on some expedition. Thank you.

Sadly, GA eliminated the electric chair...

Lethal injection will be too good for this scumbag...

Out police station encourages all residents to do craigslist payments, etc., in front of their offices.

Death penalty state.

And they actually use it, too.

Yes, a nearby town opens the lobby of the police station for these transactions.

Smart move. How did the cop shop receive your call?

I tend to shy away from CL unless I can orchestrate the meet - too many crazies.

A decent civilized society would have burning at the stake as a capital punishment option.

My family knows the Runions from 25 years ago, we lived in the same neighborhood. Our family, another neighbor and the Runions formed a play group for the little ones.... my kids were at their house all the time...
They were great people.....she was teacher.... don’t remember what Bud did but he was always working on a project car in his spare time.
This murderer should burn in hell!

This kind of nightmare gives me pause when I think of how my wife and I are close to their ages and we love to travel. Over the years, we have found ourselves in a few places where we were at risk of jeopardy.

I am sad for these poor folks and their families.

May that evil POS rot in HELL.
