Indiana Governor to Expand Medicaid Coverage

Indiana Republican Gov. Mike Pence is moving ahead to extend Medicaid coverage to hundreds of thousands of Hoosiers under the federal health law after securing a key concession from the Obama administration.

The deal, to be announced Tuesday, could pave the way for half a dozen more states to seek similar deals, boosting Medicaid expansion proposals in Republican-led states including Florida, North Carolina and Wyoming.

Indiana and Washington officials had been locked for months in negotiations over an issue that could shape the future of Medicaid, the 50-year-old federal-state health program that covers more than 60 million low-income Americans. Mr. Pence, a potential 2016 presidential candidate, had said he would not allow the program to expand unless he was allowed to charge some participants contributions toward the cost of their coverage and lock them out of the program for six months if they didn't comply.

His deal breaker pitted advocates for the traditional program against federal officials’ desire to see the program grow. To date, 27 other states have agreed to use federal dollars to expand Medicaid, and a 28th, Tennessee, is formally considering a deal.

Indiana Republican Gov. Mike Pence is moving ahead to extend Medicaid coverage to hundreds of thousands of Hoosiers...

That's just peachy.

Now try to find a doctor to care for all those extra hundreds of thousands.

Mike Pence is not a bleeding heart liberal.

But as long as Obamacare stays on the books and looks like it won’t be repealed any time soon, it doesn’t make sense for Republican states to pass up on federal financing.

Pence got a good deal for his state.

Our Governor just said no. We would have had to cover 650,000 new people. The Feds pay 100% for the first 3 years then only 90% and who says you can count on that?

Love the way Obama just illegally changed the law again for Mike Pence so he can charge Medicaid recipients for part of the cost. Not that I think its a bad idea but that’s not part of the Obamacare legislation.

Corrected:

"Indiana Republican GOP Establishment Gov. Mike Pence is moving ahead to extend Medicaid coverage to hundreds of thousands of Hoosiers"

And as long as there is complicity, Obamacare becomes more entrenched

That is not “a good deal” . . .for any of us

Never said Pence was.

I still stick by my post.

All these hundreds of thousands will not be able to find doctors who will accept medicare/medicaid patients.

Doctors who currently have them will not take in any more. Its as simple as that.

Coverage does not equal care.

"Now try to find a doctor to care for all those extra hundreds of thousands."

Well the GOP just needs to get their minds right and support immigration reform amnesty so we can open a flood gate of H1B visa doctors. Lot of potential FMG's just waiting to help us out.

The problem isn't the number of doctors.

The problem is the number of doctors willing to work for minimum wage.

He won’t regret it. He is a Republican. Some people think he is a conservative but that is not correct. He is a Socialist just as are the Democrats. Republicans are a tad less vocal about their political preferences than Democrats but, at the direction of their Corporate Board, the DNC, they are socialists.
