Democratic Senator Dianne Feinstein of California says that inviting Prime Minister Netanyahu to address Congress during an Israeli election period is highly inappropriate and that imposing new sanctions on Iran at this time is reckless and dangerous.
Feinsteins statement to Haaretz comes against the backdrop of the growing backlash against Netanyahus upcoming March 3 speech to Congress, which is already causing some Democratic lawmakers to rethink their support for the Iran sanctions bill proposed by Democratic Senator Robert Menendez from New Jersey and Republican Senator Mark Kirk from Illinois.
According to journalist Laura Rozen of Al-Monitor, Menendez is trying to salvage what remains of Democratic support for his bill by proposing that any vote would be postponed till March 26, the target date by which Iran and Washington are to reach an agreement in principle on Irans nuclear program.
The liberal Feinstein, who is not one of the 12 Democratic co-sponsors of the Kirk-Menendez bill, said in a statement to Haaretz: "Inviting Prime Minister Netanyahu without consulting the administration is clearly a breach of protocol and an unwelcome injection of partisan politics into our foreign policy. It puts the United States in the middle of Israels election, which is highly inappropriate.
Feinstein added I also believe imposing additional sanctions on Iran in the midst of negotiations which is what Netanyahu will reportedly discuss would collapse the negotiations and ruin a historic diplomatic opportunity. Imposing sanctions now is reckless and dangerous.

Democrats have chosen sides. The home of anti-Semitic hate is the democrat party.
Iran dangerous
Another islamist facilitator....
In addition Clinton hosted Peres at the WH a month before Israeli elections in 1996.
It’s incredible how radical the left has become in the last 6 years.
Congress is the “dangerous ones” and it’s inappropriate for the leader of our closest ally to speak to Congress?
Who do they think believes their BS anymore?
Because they are doing such a great job. Stick to pushing graft through your husband Difi.
Pray America is waking
Democrats have chosen sides.
They truly are the party of evil. It should be clear to everyone.
Caving into Iran is a major priority in Washington nowadays.
Netanyahu has an election in front of him and Boehner must have gotten a lot of money from the “Israel Lobby” supporters to have invited Bibi to speak in the first place.
Their money must not mean a thing to Feinstein, who appears to be a lackey of Obama who is hell bent on cutting a deal with Iran.
The love affair between the “Israel Lobby” and the Democrats goes back a long time to 1956 when Eisenhower got tough with Israel and then Senate Majority Lyndon Johnson took the side of Israel for the money and votes.
Chris Wallace is whining about how inappropriate it is too.
And of course Feinstein is the one who released the “torture report” just last month.
To her, Congress and the CIA are the bad guys in the world.
Anything that that purports to show Americans as Strong or Great threatens Liberal’s very Ideology right to their Core Belief’s. Just like Hollywood and American Sniper.
I’ve also wondered how smart Netanyahu’s strategy on this is too. However, something tells me he has some good intel on what Obama wants to do. Methinks Netanyahu feels its better to go down swinging than meekly accept Obama’s anointment of Iran as the new Middle Eastern superpower.
Bibi spoke to joint sessions of Congress in 1996 and 2011.
I think he’s due for another appearance now 4 years later.
Even if the Iran issue wasn’t extremely urgent now, which it is.
Funny how no one in the MSM ever calls Obama’s embrace of the Muslim Brotherhood and Iran “inappropriate” and “dangerous”.
Wasn’t Cesar Chavez up here parading around before his last “election” sham ...or, was it Obama who went down there? I forget.
I think the strategy here goes far beyond the debate over the sanctions bill and whether or not Congress will override an Obama veto for the first time.
It’s far too late for sanctions to work now.
War is on the horizon, and if it doesn’t break out prior to Bibi’s trip here in early March, it will soon after.
Bibi’s speech to Congress should be viewed as a final warning to Iran, and to the world as well that Israel can’t wait any longer.
You could be right.
Let her pick up the phone and call him then. I’m sure he’d be glad to explain the existential threat Iran poses... but she’s doing this more for Obama than because she really thinks it’s not appropriate.
Call me cynical.
Bibi dealt with Hamas rockets from Gaza last summer like Nixon dealt with Vietcong coming out of Cambodia in 1970.
The bombing incursion policy was right out of the Vietnam War handbook, not the George S. Patton World War 2 handbook.
You know what happened after Nixon’s actions, a peace deal and eventual Communist conquest of the region.
Israel has political parties like Jewish Homeland of Naftali Bennett and the Avigdor Lieberman faction that take a harder line towards Israel’s enemies.
Since Likud is the “Republican Party” of Israel it does not surprise me that Boehner would invite him.
Iran and its nuclear program is a dead serious issue and I look for a dead serious response.
Tough talking speeches right before elections are not enough.
We get that from Boehner all the time.....
