At his inauguration as Marylands 62nd governor, Republican Larry Hogan promised to usher in an era of bipartisanship and cooperation in a state capital dominated by Democrats, even as he outlined an unabashedly conservative pro-business agenda.
We must get the state government off our backs and out of our pockets so that we can grow the private sector, put people back to work and turn our economy around, Mr. Hogan said in a speech delivered on the steps of the State House.
As he began his speech amid a flurry of snowfall that dusted the crowd, Mr. Hogan with a joke acknowledged the improbability of his election in deep-blue Maryland.
They said it was going to be a cold day in hell before we elected a Republican governor, he quipped.
Mr. Hogan, who owns a commercial real estate business, won an upset victory in November over Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown, a Democrat who served eight years alongside Gov. Martin O'Malley, who is preparing a run for the Democratic presidential nomination next year.
Having campaigned almost exclusively on pledges to rein in out-of-control state spending and roll back some of the 40 tax and fee increases levied under Mr. O'Malley, Mr. Hogan outlined a governing philosophy focused on rigorous stewardship of the budget.

Maryland “Freak State” PING!
no such thing.
if it’s truly a conservative agenda no libtard dems are gonna go along with it. which is freaking fine with me.
well, maybe Gov Hogan has a pen and a phone !
Impossible.
I say give the man a chance.
But it’s so much easier to bash him and call him “RINO scum”. ;)
How the heck did a Republican get elected governor in Sissy-Mary-land? Unless he managed to out-liberal the radical left.
I voted for the guy, we actually shxt canned the liberals in St. Marys county and went full republican here on the state side but the liberal scum that infest this state still control the house & senate. Bottom line, I doubt little if anything gets done to help this state. 2 years, 9 months and I’m gone.
Didn't think so.
I know that Hogan is a RINO, but that is probably the best we can do in MD at this time. Hoping that he is successful with his economic policies and shows the typical Rat voters that the Rat party does not have their best interests at heart.
Truth be told, though, the Rats in the legislature like Busch and Miller will hamstring him every chance they get like they did to Ehrlich. Interesting how the Rats squealed in protest when Ehrlich talked of having gambling casinos in Maryland but, once the Rats were back in power, casinos were suddenly no longer immoral.
Rush Limbaugh got it right when he said people feel that they need to be responsible but also want to give away free stuff. Every once in a while, they take a look around and say “we need to get our house in order”, then after things look right, they feel it’s safe to go back to a democrat and give them a chance only to repeat the process. This is what happens in MD. The democrat waited until his second term to tax the rain and your toilet flushes and it made MD taxpayers fed-up so they went with the guy that promised to get rid of the rain and flush taxes and balance the budget. I give Hogan one term and they go back to the democrat.
“Interesting how the Rats squealed in protest when Ehrlich talked of having gambling casinos in Maryland but, once the Rats were back in power, casinos were suddenly no longer immoral.”
I remember that. They lined up black pastors all day to preach about the evils of gambling and how it’s sucking the life blood out of the family and church until the democrats proposed it and they suddenly saw the benefits of taxing it for “the schools”.. now the state is in historic debt and the population is over taxed, over regulated and has moved “over there” to VA. If Hogan doesn’t turn everything around by next Tuesday, it will be his fault.

Yes but the cancer gnawing at the state is Baltimore
Will the rise in sea level solve the problem?
Yes, I remember that parade of pastors well. They should be ashamed of themselves, but they are Rats so I ask too much.
You are right. I hope Hogan has a better way to fight the media than Ehrlich did.
MD had a Repub gov 8 years ago. We’ve also managed some other (slight) changes in other ways.
Yes, and we got a Repub here in Howard for the 1st time in 20+ years. Doesn’t mean it will be easy - still too many Dems - but at least it puts a stay on some things.
Yes, hilarious.
And my ex-Executive (local) was supposed to run for our LT. Gov.
Marty thinks he is gorgeous, and can win on looks and “youth” like he is Kennedy.
Looks and youth are enough for the straight-ticket Demwit voter.
