WASHINGTON, DC Tonight, Sen. Joni Ernst (R-IA) will deliver the Republican Address to the Nation following the State of the Union. Following are excerpts from the address:
Id like to have a conversation about the new Republican Congress you just elected, and how we plan to make Washington focus on your concerns again. We heard the message you sent in November loud and clear. And now were getting to work to change the direction Washington has been taking our country.

We see our neighbors agonize over stagnant wages and lost jobs. We see the hurt caused by canceled healthcare plans and higher monthly insurance bills. We see too many moms and dads put their own dreams on hold while growing more fearful about the kind of future theyll be able to leave to their children. Americans have been hurting, but when we demanded solutions, too often Washington responded with the same stale mindset that led to failed policies like Obamacare. Its a mindset that gave us political talking points, not serious solutions.

Theres a lot we can achieve if we work together. Lets tear down trade barriers in places like Europe and the Pacific. Lets sell more of what we make and grow in America over there so we can boost manufacturing, wages, and jobs right here, at home. Lets simplify Americas outdated and loophole-ridden tax code. Republicans think tax filing should be easier for you, not just the well-connected. So lets iron out loopholes to lower rates and create jobs, not pay for more government spending. The President has already expressed some support for these kinds of ideas. Were calling on him now to cooperate to pass them.

We've been reminded of terrorisms reach both at home and abroad; most recently in France and Nigeria, but also in places like Canada and Australia. Our hearts go out to all the innocent victims of terrorism and their loved ones. We can only imagine the depth of their grief. ... The forces of violence and oppression dont care about the innocent. We need a comprehensive plan to defeat them.
---
Congress is back to work on your behalf, ready to make Washington focus on your concerns again. We know America faces big challenges. But history has shown theres nothing our nation, and our people, cant accomplish.
I think she should be delivering that speech as a counterpoint to Boehner, not Obama.
I wonder what she keeps in that tackle box.
Rep. Curt Clawson of Florida will deliver the tea party response, Rep. Carlos Curbelo of Florida will interpret the GOP response in Spanish, Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky plans a YouTube response, and President Obama’s State of the Union will be officially rebutted by Sen. Joni Ernst of Iowa for the Republican Party.
A little something for everyone...
Cruz will rebut on FNC.
Talk is cheap!
Sorry for the double post, I asked the Mod to remove one!
A “read a speech” type rebuttal or a dissection and criticism?
Joni is my Senator. I look forward to seeing how she performs.
I fully expect the trolls on this site to criticize her.
Soros pays well, I hear.
Like the sympathizing sappy talking points in almost the entire paragraph preceding that sentence? Well, she DID call Obamacare a "failed policy," and that is GREAT.
"So lets iron out loopholes to lower rates and create jobs, not pay for more government spending. The President has already expressed some support for these kinds of ideas. Were calling on him now to cooperate to pass them.
All I can do is shake my head. "Iron out," hell! Eliminate! Or at least aspire to! The concept of limiting government flies over her head, it seems. BWHOOOOOSSHH!
But the one that just made me want to scream, was:
Congress is back to work on your behalf, ready to make Washington focus on your concerns again."
CRIPES!!! Doesn't she get it??? The only way Congress is going to work on "our" behalf is to crusade for CUTTING BACK GOVERNMENT so America can be free again of tyranny.
Government is a force and it is supposed to be a servant -- that's how American founders wrote the Constitution. The liberal overuse of government has turned it into a tyrant and statements like hers above shows that the Republicans are crewing the government ship that I want to sink, dammit!
Attempting to chill debate, before it can even begin, with personal attacks on anyone who dares oppose you.
If anyone is acting like a “Soros-paid troll,” it’s you.
Sorry, this is America. No politician is above criticism.
It would be nice if republicans would dish a little joe Biden at the whiny little bi+ch. Remember the Biden/Ryan debate, when crazy uncle joe was guffawing and smiling? Republicans should respond the same way to every claim the emperor makes.
You are not as clever as you think you are.
You sound like a lawyer. IOW, complete BS with a few twist to make it appeal to the ignorant. You know it. My reason for posting is to try to enlighten others.
Yeah, how could we ever forget that? Joe acted like he was ‘on something’, he was so goofy. So far only Joe Wilson has ever had the guts to speak out and Alito to show his displeasure. I await new ‘happenings’, lol.
Pray tell how accusing anyone who might criticize a politician of being paid by Soros amounts to “enlightening others.”
Now I am sure you are a lawyer. You know very well that you twisted my words.
There is a level of disingenuity in your response that reminds me of lawyers and sociopaths. Sorry for the redundancy.
Looks like a canned speech that anyone could read. Nothing new or bold in the excerpts.
